Pro-choice, Man Advocate, or Feminist?

I was watching T.V. the other day. The story was about a young man who was “victimized” to support the child, whom he unwillingly brought to this world. He was in and out of several courts and in all he was ordered to pay the child support. While I was watching, my feminist blood was boiling, then I listened a little more and heard his whole story, that was when I came to this realization that he was not that “guilty” at all!!! The story was as such:

What a Small World!

Back in Iran, high-school friendship is one of those that will never be forgotten. There is no responsibilities, no compitition, (well, at least it was not for my friends and me), and also no popularities among the students. I don't know about now, maybe I should have used past tense. In my time about 20 years ago, there were no such things. So, we valued our friends and kept them (some of us still have) for the rest of our lives.

Do U stereotype?

Yesterday, I was talking to a co-worker of mine, whom I came to know about 7 years ago when used to go to the graduate school. John, my friend, has a side job as a stand up comedian. He is funny with a little bit of satire spice added to him:). John is a very intellectual young man, who also has a degree in philosophy and world religion. OK, enough of introduction!

In these almost two-month time that I have started writing here, I came to notice an interesting fact. There are different types of readers and/or commentators in this site, or at least as far as I experienced in my blogs:

A Happy Birthday with Namjoo!

OK! No more I'm fourty! I have to start saying I am in my 40s! Scary? Hmmm? I have to be honest, sometimes I think well I have done quite a bit in my life, but something is clinging on me that there are some to be done too. However, I don't want to linger on them today, because IT IS MY BIRTHDAY! I have a very nice friend, sent me an e-card and hoping me to get wiser by day. My reply was I hope that too, however, there in my list of wish there was a typo: wider! I believe that's what has happened to me lately:)

I was at the store browsing jean pants when I found a size 0! I was thinking to myself, except for those who are genetically petit, who can fit in those. Next to me, was a 9 year-old girl, small structure and tall enough for her age complaining to her mother of having gained weight these past couple of days!!!!

How much Independency Is too Much?

I always thought it is good to give your husband a sense that he is needed. For the same reason, I always used to ask my husband's help on the works to be done around the house. Not that I don't know how to change a light bulb, put tiles in the bathroom, paint the whole house, or my new project today assembling the bookcase. However, I always asked for his help in each and all of those ecept the last one. I thought in a sense I was helping him with his self-confidence and how I relied on him being the MAN of the house.

What Is Love?

I go biking every morning for an hour. While biking, I listen to the music mostly soft rock. Today while listening to Celin Dion, I came to this realization that “love” is such a universal entity that no matter where we live, our perception toward this emotion is the same. You can see this word in literature, and music; yet there are so many approaches in defining it. What is love? Is it a powerful force that makes a lover to go beyond the limit? And if so, why?

We Don't Say Good-bye!

Have you ever experienced saying good-bye to your loved ones. They can be your parents, kids, siblings, or friends.
Divorce and Its Ramifications!

After so many emperical studies, it has been proven that kids are better off in a loveless marriage than a broken home unless there is any type of abuse, whether they are the witness or the victim. However, I always ask myself what a role model I am to my kids (mostly my daughter) if I allow her to see that unloving-married life is OK. Am I teaching her to persevere and ignore the very basic fact in marriage: LOVE?

Reminiscense!

While at university back home, in Iran, I had been an active member of the Literature Circle and once a month we would get together in the meeting for the purpose of exchanging ideas. I always had this small blue notebook in which I would write my poetry or anything that went on in those meetings. It has been 20 years since then, and by mere luck while cleaning up my closet (sometimes I can't even find myself in there because of the clutter!!!), I came up with a very old black bag up there in one of the shelf. I cannot express how my hands were shaking while I was opening it.
