Life Across The Sun

Well, I am supposedly a writer/novelist, but lately I've been going through a long never-ending writer's block and this is too scary. I knew I had to write no matter what even if it is not as good as I expected.

But life is unpredictable. It takes you to places, it starves you without killing you. It takes different shapes and sings different songs behind your back. It is your friend, at the same time your worst enemy.

You Are So Sweet!

“You are so sweet,” I was always told. Now I am convinced they were right. I AM sweet, really sweet. Even sweeter than it should. And this sweetness is all natural. It must be hereditary, running in my blood. My mom is sweet too. I remember having a great aunt who was like us.

Iran, Freedom of Expression: Salman Rushdie and the Freedom of Speech

If Salman Rushdi hadn’t forgotten to set his alarm clock, we would have never met. But that party was such a hot party and he had drunk so much that it was just impossible for him to remember his early flight to China. I could totally understand. We all could. Anyway, that’s how we all shared his destiny.

Blue Cloud

It was the last summer we spent in Tehran. Everyone was supposed to leave Earth, for good. Mother and Alephba had already spent more than two weeks going through all the memory reservoirs to pick and choose what to take and what to leave behind. Earth’s temperature was going to reach the unbearable. All the fishes of the Caspian Sea had died. The green trees of Amirieh had turned black, and the winds of the south had covered the city in a gray layer of sand.

Father waited for us on Perspolis245, our new home in the Milky Way.

Valentine on Friday the 13th

I keep sneezing. My throat, my eyes, my face itches. How am I going to look when I get there? The cold and the rain hasn’t washed all the dust and pollens out of the air yet. The blooming trees might kill me one day, I think.

I’m sure at this moment, Maria, my cleaning lady, is working in the bathroom, Jesus, her son, dusting the living-room. When I left she was crying of happiness, but she looked so miserable this morning.

I love Orhan Pamuk!

His prose is pure poetry; magical and timeless. He is my favorite contemporary writer and I am so happy to find this link to his recent speech at UCSB. Voila the link to "an evening with Orhan Pamuk":

موج انسانى براى نجات جوانى از اعدام

I was moved beyond imagination, after reading what the Iranians, still living in Iran have expressed about Ali's ordeal, I realized that I might have been wrong. I am happy that Iran, the Iran I knew, the Iran that I always imagined, isn't dead. No. This Iran, my kind and generous Iran hasn't disappeared yet.

A few weeks ago, I attended this same concert at Disney Hall in LA. It was one of the best Iranian Music concerts I had ever seen. No wonder Shahram Nazeri has been awarded the Légion d'honneur. His Music was original, mystic and totally mesmerizing.

Luciano Pavarotti will never die

I just learned Luciano Pavarotti has passed away. Such a terrible day for humanity.

I love Opera. I always thought if I die in the middle of listening to Pavarotti singing Recitar or Nessun Dorma, it would have been the perfect death. What is really the meaning of happiness, other than catching these rare instants of pure beauty?

His voice like the fire of thunders, like the sound of rains, like the magical evanescence of mists reveals the boredom of our mortal lives.
