once upon a time my cousin susan and i were driving from the bay area in california to olympia washington state and we stopped for the night at a motel 6 in grants pass oregon. we had room 112 by the pool and i went out to sit for a smoke. there was a girl, maybe 21 years old, sitting near by and when i sat down she looked at me and said "do you want me to draw you a picture?" and i said "are you a drawer?" and she said "i'm talking to my boyfriend!" and i realized she had an I-phone in the crook of her neck.

while i was looking through the iranian.com calendar of events, i saw that perhaps the most important date in american literary history was missing. although mark twain wasnt iranian, he is well liked in iran, and he was a very progressive man in his time, and perhaps the greatest american writer and thinker. november first, 2010 marks the 100th year anniversary of his death! on his death bed he dictated a rambling 15 volume autobiography with the stipulation that it would not be published until 100 years after his death.

در شهر پراگ فصل ها به موقع میرسن. امروز هم هوا باز شده، آسمان بالاخره بعد از شش ماه خاکستری، آبی شده و پرنده ها جیک جیک می کنن. شش ماه آسمان خاکستری اثر میذاره روی همه. آبجو می خوریم و می گیم "آفتاب در لیوان."

i translated ten poems of yaghma golrooey to thank him for a big favor he did for my baba. these are my first attempts at farsi to english poetic translations and i enjoyed the 2 hours or so that it took to translate each poem so much it gave me a "raisin de eater". if anyone can point me toward poems that need translating the cheragh of my shabestan would light up.

I attended tehran american school for first, eighth, ninth, tenth and eleventh grades. Baba and mom sent me away when I was sixteen, they shipped me back to the states in a C-130 hercules arranged by an iranian airforce general with an american wife who was friends with my mom. They said it was to keep me out of the army in iran, yet I was the only half-breed who left that year. They sent me to st. louis, missouri, where I stayed with a guardian family and graduated a semester early and started hitch-hiking around the states looking up old TAS high school buddies.

I cant remember exactly, but it was a few years after the revolution, right when the “begir begir” (mass arrests) started, the passport office in tehran started issuing new IRI passports so we went and stood in line for days and got them.
