MORSI’S “KHOUMEINI ACT” MAY SAVE SYRIANS FROM AN IRAN-STYLE FATE

Just as Syrian Islamists had been gaining in popularity and just as everyone began to believe Muslim Brotherhood pledges (“We don’t want to be Iran” and “If you vote for us we promise won’t be the last free election”) Egypt’s Morsi has scared folks by actkig exactly like Khoumeini in 1979.

EA analyst: REGIME'S FALL COULD BE IMMINENT!"

'An imminent fall of the Assad regime is not an inevitability, but it is a distinct possibility." --James Miller in a devastating analysis today at Enduring America. I agree.

ITEM: the regime hasn't won a single battle since September but the opposition ha won dozens.

ITEM: Rebel victories have been lopided wins with half the garrison defecting beforehand.

ITEM: Many other regime "strongholds" especialy in the north are either on the verge of fallling or of becoming surrounded.

Analysis: SHOULD SYRIAN REBELS SEIZE THE COAST BEFORE ASSAULTING DAMASCUS?

I am intrigued by a map of Syria and the opportunities it seems to offer. The catch, as I’m well aware, Is that I’ve never been in Syria and could be missing something critical which would make the strategy discussed here unworkable. If so, can someone point it out?

A myth-debunking study has potent implications for USA, Iran and Arab world

A study asks: "DO PEOPLE BECOME MORE CONSERVATIVE AS THEY AGE?" It
focuses exclusively on America but its findings would seem to have universal applicability. If correct, they'd also have predictive value, especially when it comes to the question:"Is it possible, in a given nation, to reverse undesired socio-political change?"

Upcoming changes in energy availability will have huge political & economic effects on Iran, elsewhere

Sometimes we become so involved with our daily lives or with dramatic current events (the Arab Spring, Gaza, Syria's crisis, the US elections) we fail to see far more potent developments hurling down the tracks toward us. Those events will hit every person and every nation on the planet--with full force. When it happens, most people will be unprepared.

Manouchehr, a refime propangandist who has previously urged the execution of Moussavi and Karroubi, had been posting the following news item online as if he expected it would make Iranians jump for joy.

‘Reformist (Democracy) Front to name presidential candidate soon
THREE PERMANENT LESSONS OF 2009

All Elections will be rigged (as has been fact since 2004). So long as the Islamic Republic Exists, life can never get better, not even slightly. It follows that revolution, as in Syria, is the only hope of a brighter future.

How Obama can triumph in November and prevail in the Middle East

Until Canada showed the way, every alternative for dealing with Syria and Iran has been too unpalatable. Barack Obama will win a close race if he manages to thwart Assad and Khamenei prior to elections via moves as tough as anything neo-cons advocate but which by contrast involve no big military or treasury costs. Before it is too late, Obama can also reverse growing animosity toward a "do-nothing" West. His reputation for statesmanship would go up everywhere, especially in the history books.

Analysis & roundup: IN SYRIA--NOT A STALEMATE AFTER ALL

A "stalemate" implies a situation where neither side can make progress. Is that the case in Syria? A more accurate description is that the FSA is winning--inexorably--but slower than we'd like.

Present scenario:

The word categorizes only Aleppo and--to a lesser degree--Damascus where lack of sufficient weapons is all that prevents a thumping FSA victory. l

Key Developments that could shake things up:

How many defecting troops and high insiders have attested to Assad's crimes? Are they all Al Queda?

The FSA has 60,000 members and is growing. It's ranks include military defectors and civiians. High-level defectors can describe Assad's direct orders. Thousands of soldiers to crimes they witnessed first hand or were ordered to carry out at gunpoint. Most armor and artillery forces woud desert tomorrow if not for vulnerability to air power. The regime has learned not to engage in close-up urban combat because of the certainty of mass defections.
