The Baha'i Obligatory Pilgrimage

Pilgrimage is a privilege and an obligation in the Bahá'í Faith for those who can afford it. It is enjoined by Bahá'u'lláh in his most important work, the Kitáb-i-Aqdas (Most Holy Book), his Book of Laws. There are three places to which pilgrimage is binding. The first of these is the former residence of the Báb (1819-1850), the prophet-founder of the Bábí religion, in Shiraz, Iran. The Báb was the forerunner of Bahá'u'lláh, and the Bábí and Bahá'í religions are intimately related.

The Baha'i way of marriage

Baha'i friends are welcome to add their information and suggestions to this blog.
(This is the half part, I will write more in the next part in 2 days)

General Guidelines for Bahá’i Marriage

• Consent to the marriage from all living biological parents of the couple is required, regardless of whether the parents are Baha’is or not, It is important to note that the consent of parents required by Bahá’i law is to the marriage of the parties and not to the Bahá’i ceremony.

Review: How Bahá'ís helped bring modern education to Iran

By Soli Shahvar
I.B. Tauris, London

The role of the Bahá'í Faith in the modernization of Iran remains a history largely waiting to be written, according to the author of a new scholarly work about Bahá'í schools that once existed and flourished throughout the country.

"What I have learned from doing this is that there are a lot more studies to be done on the role of the Bahá'ís," said Soli Shahvar, author of The Forgotten Schools: The Bahá'ís and Modern Education in Iran, 1899-1934. "This book is just one example."

Great News ! Release of Simin Gorji, from Prison

The Baha’i, Simin Gorji of Qaemshahr, who had been detained for the fourth time on 15 Ordibehesht 1389 [5 May 2010], was freed upon completion of her sentence [news of her arrest was reported here: http://www.iranpresswatch.org/post/237].

As noted by a RAHANA reporter, Simin Gorji had been previously sentenced to one year in prison. She had served only 6 months of that term, between Ordibehesht and Aban 1387 [Apr/May to Oct/Nov 2008]. Therefore, on 15 Ordibehesht 1389, she was detained and sent to prison in order to complete her term.

Arising to Serve is the second in a course sequence
designed to raise up human resources capable of fostering the growth of
the Baha'i Community with efficiency and love. The units of the Ruhi
objectives: providing insights into spiritual matters, imparting
knowledge about the Faith, and helping to develop specific acts of
service. The units of Book 1 basically seek to help the students gain
insights into certain spiritual matters. Book 2 is largely concerned

“Mommy, why you?”

Susan Tebyanian, a Baha’i, commenced serving her 18 month prison sentence on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 [see http://www.iranpresswatch.org/post/6167]. She is in Evin Prison along with two other Baha’i women, Sahba Rezvani [see http://www.iranpresswatch.org/post/2651] and Manijeh Monzavian [see http://www.iranpresswatch.org/post/5768]. She has two children, ages 3 and 9. This letter was written by her nine-year old son to his mother in prison.

I want to tell the world that if being a Baha’i is a crime, then I am guilty of the same crime. So why not imprison me too?

Why Do Baha'is Make Home Visits?
