There is uproar caused by Ali Akbar Nateq Nouri’s recent remarks, calling the country of Bahrain "Iran’s 14th province." The statement has moved Bahrain to suspend talks pertaining to purchase of liquid natural gas from Iran, and Arab states have been forced to issue statements and show reaction to Bahrain's mounting anger.

BBC Persian's new casualty

In the middle of the mayhem that Gaza is these days, Khader Shahin, a Palestinian reporter (with an Israeli birth certificate) who was reporting for Iran’s Al Alam network was arrested by the Israeli ground forces who “accused Shahin of breaking a martial order about limited media coverage regarding the beginning of Israel Ground Operation in Gaza.”

I chatted briefly with Omid Memarian at the United Nations last night. He had just finished interviewing Shirin Ebadi in Tehran . He said having interviewed Ms. Ebadi tens of times, the usually resolute and strong defender of human rights in Iran was sounding a little tired, sad, and vulnerable this time around. The recent attack on the building where Ebadi both lives and works, as police officers simply looked on has been a scary experience for the Nobel Peace Laureate.

While everyone is speculating about behind the scene agreements over Clinton's appointment as Obama administration's Secretary of State, some people can't forget her remarks in an ABC News interview last April. She answered the question of how she would deal with Iran if Iran attacked Israel with nuclear weapons, as: “I want the Iranians to know that if I’m the president, we will attack Iran. In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them.”

Mahmoud's Party in New York

I read an IRNA report about President Ahmadinejad's party in his hotel last night, in which the report says 3,000 people were in attendance. Reading this report on Islamic Republic News Agency site made me want to share it with you. I read a lot of reports on Iran's state-owned media. The overtly flattering and flowery report about this event is a surprise, even for IRNA. I have translated a couple of paragraphs of the report:
