Much like everyone else, my eyes have been fixed on YouTube and Facebook, witnessing events and incidents too macaber to watch, yet too important to miss. My eyes are tired of scanning and scouring the images, my heart has been heavy and beating too fast for two whole weeks now, and the endless stream of sobs and tears which have overcome me at times, registering the shock of what I have just witnessed, have done little to wash away those images. Some of them are now seared into my memory and my knowlege forever, stinging my heart and chipping away at my conscience.

Researching Iranian Proverbs

I was looking for a source to verify an Iranian proverb I had recently heard. I found the link to "Famous Persian Proverbs," a book by Gholamreza Azarli, published in 1989. It is a fairly comprehensive collection of Iranian idioms and proverbs. Though I was able to find the proverb I was searching, searching through the book was a bit difficult.

My love affair with Hafez started in my late 20's and has grown stronger and deeper over the years. Hafez is the poet of Iranian souls. Almost everybody reads Hafez and everybody understands him in his or her own ways. His wisdom and messages of hope are constant sources of consultation and comfort by so many Iranians. During longer autumn and winter nights, reading Hafez is a particularly comforting pastime of mine.

The Chakhan-Gate Fiasco

The Washington Post reports that the Iranian Parliament is getting ready to impeach Interior Minister Ali Kordan for his "dishonesty" in presenting a fake law degree from Oxford University. This is significant not only in the public humiliation and embarrassment it has caused Mr. Ahmadinejad in appointing Mr. Kordan, but because he has already made 21 changes in his cabinet and making another change would push him closer to having to re-submit his entire cabinet to the Parliament for a vote of confidence.

Traitor Pigeons of Natanz

Two birds have been arrested on espionage charges in Natanz, Iran. They are suspected of working for enemies of IRI. One of them was arrested near a golab (rose water) factory all the way in Kashan, according to the report in the Telegraph. How do you think these pigeons were interrogated? Do you think they have fessed up already? Were they cooperative? Or did they have to be tortured to confess?
