Power of Crowd Funding for dental care professionals

In June of this year I wrote a blog about the growing, exciting and almost magical concept of Crowd Funding and how it can be applied to various professions and industries.

I would like to now inform the readers of IDC of a new, first of its kind crowd funding portal for dentists; whether recently licensed or established. Owned and operated by Iranian-Americans.

WWW.FUNDINGSMILES.COM is dedicated to bringing together value conscious consumers and dentists looking to fund their new practice without a bank loan.

Facebook shares on the rise, and for good reason.

Early in September, a couple of anlysts who were most likely paid off by people who had large interest in shorting the shares of Facebook (FB) down graded FB and the stock dove to $17.73

The people with short position made 100s of millions and speculations among pros as well as lay investors was that FB will drop to $13 or $14 or even below $10

Since yesterday's after market announcement of earnings for Q3, FB has gone up 20%+; shares are trading at $23.50 at mid day.

U$D=34,000 Rials; what then?

The new school year is upon us in the U.S. and many visitors to Iran have come back from their annual or bi-annual journey to the motherland.

The common theme that seems to worry everyone can be reduced to:

1) Out of control inflation and high prices; other than the top 10%, no one can eat meat more than once a week.

2) Out of control smog levels in large cities which is really tough on the elders.

3) Last but not least, feeling among most Iranians in business is that the rial will be devaluated another 30-35% in 3-4 months.

I have mostly contributed content on business and technology since I became a member on Iranian.com I am not particularly enchanted by wealth or financial success as I am with numbers and statistics. I'm a numbers junkie if you will.

The most valuable real estate of the future is not in Manhattan, Tokyo, Paris, Beverly Hills or anywhere with a physical address for that matter. The most valuable real estate is the surface of your tablet a la iPad, Galaxy, Nexus etc.

Would you like to see a new top level domain name ending with .IRAN ?

With changes to rules and regulations governing top level domain names and their registration, it has become possible and relatively easy to get domain names with endings such as .IRAN or .PERSIAN. Basically all that's needed is money; around $200K. Of that $185K is the application fee and the rest, lawyer fees!

Already companies such as Dell, Hermes, Pfizer, Ford and a lot more have filed their apps.

Facebook; what went wrong?

In a matter of few days, the eight-year-old company we know and mostly love has shed more than $33 billion in value - several billion more than the market capitalization of Morgan Stanley the lead underwriter of Facebook's IPO and slightly more than the market capitalization of Time Warner, one of the largest media companies in the world. To put it another way, close to 10% of GDP of Iran!

Fortunately most of the $33B loss was borne by large institutional investors; the minimum buy for the IPO was around $1,000,000.

A new tool for Iranian entrepreneurs; CrowdFunding

As early as next January, the U.S. law will again (after nearly 75 years) allow individuals and small businesses to raise up to $1,000,000 a year from the general public to start new companies or expand thriving businesses. U.S. citizen/residents can invest $2,000-$100,000 a year depending on their income level, in businesses that they like or think may have a bright future.

What can be done about the sad state of American Healthcare System.

We have all either heard stories about astronomical cost of visiting the emergency room or an extended stay at a hospital or we have been victims of it ourselves. As a rule of thumb, when you visit an ER at a hospital in a big city in the U.S. the cost will be $1,200-$12,000 depending on the nature and reason for the visit. For example, an arm broken in 2 places will cost you $3000 for exam, x-ray and a cast. If there is need for a catscan or MRI cost will go up to $5000-$6000.
