“Radical Muslim cleric Abu Hamza and four other terror suspects are due to appear in court in the US later.

Abu Hamza, Adel Abdul Bary and Khaled al-Fawwaz are due in federal court in New York while Babar Ahmad and Tahla Ahsan will face a judge in Connecticut.

Abu Hamza faces 11 charges in the US relating to hostage taking, conspiracy to establish a militant training camp and calling for holy war in Afghanistan.”

"Mauritania has handed Libya's former intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senussi over to the Libyan authorities, state media say.Libya wants to try Mr Senussi for crimes allegedly committed during his time as Col Gaddafi's right-hand man. He is also wanted by France and the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Former Argentine dictator Jorge Rafael Videla was convicted and sentenced to 50 years Thursday…. Argentina’s last dictator, Reynaldo Bignone, also was convicted and got 15 years. Both men already were in prison for other human rights abuses.

“This is an historic day. Today legal justice has been made real — never again the justice of one’s own hands, which the repressors were known for,” prominent rights activist Tati Almeida said outside the courthouse, where a jubilant crowd watched on a big screen and cheered each sentence.

Today an Egyptian judge, Ahmed Rafaat, sentenced former President Hosni Mubarak to life in prison for the killing of unarmed demonstrators during protests that ended his rule. During the peaceful demonstration of two years ago when Iranian people were asking for their rights, many were killed and brutalized by government forces. The murders and brutalities, which in the Islamic Republic is not limited to that event, was intensified after the Supreme Leader in a televised Friday prayer threatened the demonstrators with dire consequences.

The trial of Charles Taylor, the former president of Sierra Leone, being held in The Hague has ended.

Today, while delivering the 50 year jail sentence, Judge Lussick, said:

“The special status of Mr. Taylor as a head of state puts him in a different category of offenders for the purpose of sentencing.

The striking thing about the unprecedented “presidential debates” in the Islamic republic, aside their début, was the amount of criminal wrongdoings the participants who are all former or current high officials of the system publicly aired about one another. The least of charges, with some apparent substance, were related to illegal enrichment and corruption in the form of accepting graft.

The succession of germinal technological advances claimed by the Islamic republic, mostly in the aerospace and its ancillary industries with military application is capturing all the International limelight. At the same time there are less noticed yet fully advanced leaps in other fields that the Islamic Republic should pay if not more at least as much attention to.

According to credible international organizations such as IMF and human rights monitoring organizations, Islamic republic of Iran has the highest rate of brain drain and child execution in the world.

After a 15 month trial, Alberto Ken’ya Fujimori who served as the President of Peru from July 1990 to November 2000 was found guilty on all charges of human rights abuses, including murder and kidnapping.

Judge Cesar San Martin, the president of the special chamber of the Peruvian Supreme Court, which oversaw the case said : “"This court declares that the four charges are proven beyond all reasonable doubt.” The 70 year old convicted Ex-President faces as much as 30 years of imprisonment for the crimes he comitted during his decade-long rule.

During its entire eight years, especially the recently concluded two year long Presidential race, the Bush Administration has been roundly vilified by its political adversaries.

Come what may, last night the great American nation in its infinitely evolutionary wisdom elected a half American half Kenyan Barack Hussein Obama as its 44th president. I like to use this momentous occasion to start a series of short sporadic take a note entries.

Note one: As far as the Islamic Republic is concerned the children born to Iranian mothers and Afghan fathers in Iran are not considered Iranian, denying them even the pittance of the rights granted to other Iranians. Please note the 44th U.S. President’s father was Kenyan.
