Presidential elections in Iran: a window of opportunity!

According to trend watchers all over the world crises should be considered as moments to create new chances, instead of falling deeper into depression. I couldn’t agree more! When things get so bad, you know there is no way back to how it used to be. This line of thought is applied on the international financial crisis, but it’s also applicable on politics. When certain politicians (or an entire regime in this case) have shown so little positive revenue for so long, one should use any window of opportunity to create new chances.

'Robust' Engagement with Iran

“Iran, Confrontation or Cooperation?” This was the question posed at the meeting of the Atlantic Committee on Tuesday 16th of October in The Hague. Mr.Mehrdad Khonsari- political activist and former senior advisor to the former Crown Prince of Iran, Reza Pahlavi- was the main guest of the evening and gave an impressive speech.

Iranian animation films on the rise

Preparations for the third edition of the Iranian Film Festival in Rotterdam are taking place in full speed. In the meantime more details about the contributors are being revealed. Though the organization still leaves some space for their much promising 'surprises', they can already mention some names of Iranian diasporas who will play a role during this three-days festival.

It ain't over 'til the fat mollah sings!

Iran's judiciary has decided to scrap stoning and amputations from its penal bill. They submitted this draft legislation to parliament for approval. However hopeful this piece of information is, it doesn't mean much yet. It only gives a signal that Iran's judiciary has become bold enough to question the need and use of such middle aged penal measures.

Mr.Jalili's flying carpet!

Last weekend's negotiation talks in Geneva on Iran's nuclear program:Mr.Jalili compared the ongoing diplomacy to carpet weaving that 'moves ahead in millimetres.'

'And again, to some extent it is similar to Iranian carpets because it is a very precise work, it's in certain cases a very beautiful endeavor, and hopefully the end result, the final product, would be beautiful to behold,' he said.

Breaking taboos: Homosexual Mohammad

On December 15th the municipal museum of The Hague will become the stage of another media hype, this time unleashed by the Dutch- Iranian photographer Sooreh Hera.

With her provocative photography series called “Adam en Ewald” she focusses the attention on the hypocracy of the Islam towards homosexuality. In a short movie that is a part of the artistic series, two homosexual men are wearing masks of the prophet Mohammad and his son- in- law Ali.

This is Radio Teheran

Radio Zamaneh reaches young people in Iran, from Amsterdam and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. But what is the state of its promised independent journalism? Zamaneh’s self censorship. ‘The staff in Amsterdam is professional. But in Iran I work with many amateurs.’
