Tehran wall art illustrates peace offensive

If painter Mehdi Qadyanloo has his way, the famous "Down with America" mural at a busy central Tehran intersection could soon be replaced by a new painting symbolising peace. The prominent mural, on the side of a building at Karim Khan Avenue, depicts skulls in place of the stars and falling bombs at the end of the stripes on an American flag. But city officials have launched a beautification drive to put up new murals that reflect Iranian culture and spread messages of peace and hope.
