RIYADH: Saudi Interior Ministry said yesterday that a man on its list of 85 people wanted for suspected Al Qaeda links has surrendered.

Fawaz Al Otaibi gave himself up after completing Umra on Tuesday, the official SPA news agency reported.

"He reported to the authorities after expressing (to his family) the desire to return home," a ministry spokesman was quoted as saying.

He did not say what country Al Otaibi had been in but a source close to the case said the 35-year-old had spent around a year in Iran.

Al Otaibi was on a list of 83 Saudis and two Yemenis believed by Saudi Arabia to have links with Al Qaeda and suspected of planning attacks from outside the country.

Last week another person on the wanted list blew himself up in Jeddah in an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate Saudi Deputy Interior Minister and anti-terror chief Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, who was slightly hurt.
