Iran may face action from the International Olympic Committee if its swimmer deliberately pulled out of the men’s 100m breaststroke heats because an Israeli was also racing, Olympic officials said Sunday. “Under the spirit of respect and fair play, if it is confirmed that he deliberately pulled out then the IOC would take it seriously,” IOC spokeswoman Giselle Davies told Agence France-Presse. On Saturday, Iranian swimmer Mohammad Alirezaei pulled out of the men’s 100m breaststroke minutes before he was due to compete against Israel’s Tom Beeri, who finished fourth.
