The pomegranate tree at the very back

The pomegranate tree at the very back
by Baharak
19-Sep-2007

From The Lover [1] (2007), collected poems by Baharak Sedigh.

a pomegranate orchard paints the ground
behind these stone-walled gardens

step outside from time to time
and take a walk along the trees
who silently wait for your attention

on an early morning
leave your arrows and illusions of importance
behind these stone-walled gardens

for the pomegranate tree at the very back
has words of wisdom even Rumi could not create

talk to the leaves
and taste a pomegranate or two
let the air wash away the world
you think you know so well

your silence is no silence at all

let your steps follow time
not of you
not of your thoughts
but of unknown sweets and fulfilled senses

follow the whispers of your name in the distance
and step outside on an autumn day

for the pomegranate tree at the very back
has words of wisdom even Rumi could not create
