Eight UAE nationals who fathered 228 children between them were yesterday honoured by His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, at the Naturalisation and Residency Department.

They were honoured for obeying President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's directives asking the UAE national couples to have more children. The Ajman Ruler said fathers like them should be honoured in future.

The ceremony was organised on the directives of Sheikh Humaid and in cooperation with the Naturalisation and Residency Department and an Ajman charity. Dad Mohammed Murad, father of 60, has produced the largest number of children while the least productive is Abdullah Ali Juma with 21.

Haye Ahmad Al Shareef, Dadallah Khayiat Mousa and Salem Abdullah Al Rumaithi have fathered 24 children each, Mohammed Yousuf Al Ka'abi, 27, Salem Ahmad bin Halis, 30 and Mubarak Thani Mubarak, 36. Dad Mohammed Murad, a retired army sergeant, has 45 boys and 15 girls.

He was accidentally discovered by Sheikh Humaid during one of his routine visits to the public. Murad, who was born in 1947, has 11 wives. His first marriage was in 1969.

He has had twins, both girls, only once, and a 10-day-old baby boy is the latest addition to the family. Murad told authorities about the other seven men who had fathered many children.
