For more than a decade, Hadi Farahani's illustrations and
cartoons have appeared in numerous magazines, newspapers, books, competitions and
exhibitions in three continents. He has won national and international prizes in
Canada, Iran, Italy and has been three times nominated for best magazine illustrator
of the year by The National Cartoonists' Society in the United States.
The publications he works with include The Los Angeles Times, The
Wall Street Journal, The New York Sun and the New TimesLos Angles.
His medical cartoons appear regularly in the Medical Post
magazine and is the editorial illustrator of Eye Weekly.
Hadi was born in Tehran, Iran.
Cartooning came to him while he was still in high school and soon after that he started
working in Soroush magazine. There he had the chance to meet Farideh Esfandi, a charming
and beautiful colleague who became his muse and his best friend. Farideh made him
realize that there was more to life than just cartoons and there was more in cartoons
than just drawing them. She gave him the courage to take himself and his funny job
seriously and before he knew it, he had four successful exhibitions, most of them
landmarks in Iran's post-revolutionary satirical art scene.
Cartoonists and illustrators whose works he loves and admires include Charles Schulz
(Peanuts), Gary Larson (Far Side), Ronald Searle, Gerald Scarfe, Ralph Steadman,
David Levine, Marshall Arisman and Ardeshir Mohasses, all of whom have had great
influences in his works.
Hadi lives in Toronto, Canada. -- HadiFarahani.com
