The plain pure background virtually free of any decorative elements is an important factor in displaying the majesty of this lion. The four little lions in the corners of the rug multiply the impression of dignity and power created by the principal subject. Though the lion has been drawn from the side, showing a profile, the eyes have been boldly positioned on the face, adding another dimension to the lion's head. The choice of a narrow and plain border in order to further emphasize the main lion is noteworthy. (Back to article)
