UNICEF live auction in Seattle
Seattle, WA-- On Friday evening, May 11, 2001, the Seattle Chapter of
UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) will host The Art of Change, a live
auction of contemporary fine art, to be held on Level 3 of the West lake
Center in downtown Seattle.
The Art of Change features work in a wide range of styles and media created
especially for the event by 31 Seattle-area artists.
The challenge presented to this juried group was to create art that incorporated
foreign coins discarded at airports by returning travelers and donated to
UNICEF. The Art of Change asks the question, "How do we create value
where there is none?"
By answering this question, these artists are not only creating art out
of change, but also facilitating change with their art. Included in this
event is a silent auction of "Heritage Stamps," large multimedia
depictions of international postage stamps created by children from Hawthorne
Elementary School.
These pieces are currently on display at The Children's Museum in the
Seattle Center House until May 8th. From April 30th to May 10, selected
items from the auction will be on view in a Bon Marché window display
on Pine Street.
UNICEF has been working for over 50 years to improve the health and welfare
of children in 160 countries and territories. Over 90% of all funds received
by UNICEF go directly to programs such as water purification, vaccine delivery,
nutrition and education.
