History
This photo was taken almost certainly in a garden in Tabriz or
elsewhere in a prearranged setting in Azarbaijan in 1890. Sitting behind
a camera on a tripod, Crown Prince Muzaffar al-Din Mirza (in white trousers),
the future shah is smoking a water pipe, while Aqa Mahmud and the qalianchi
(water pipe attendant), Aqa Issa (both aqas, i.e. eunuchs) are
visible on his right hand side. Muzaffar al-Din Shah was almost as fond
of photography as his father Nasser al-Din Shah.
