Yesterday's children, today's parents, have lost their storyteller. Khanom Atefi, her
voice known to millions of children who listened to her reading stories on Radio
Iran, passed awayon September 20, 2002.
I wish I had more pictures of her. I only have this casette cover of one of her stories.
She used to call herself "ghesseh-gooyeh shomaa" (Your Storyteller). I
talked to her about 10 years ago when she was a newscaster on Voice of America's
Persian service. "I am old. I should be retired, these are my retirement days.
But I'm still working," she said.
