The following are comments in favor of popular singer Delkash, as
the Iranian of the year. She performed for the first time in 20 years in London in October
1998. Each comment is from a different person. Names have been withheld
for reasons of privacy.

Free spirit
Because she is not dumb. Because she has always been heroic and proud
and not a Ghirty Ghashamsham. Because she has never been fooled neither
in her manner of singing nor in her social life. Because she had a free
spirit and was never a mercenary ass-licker. Because she went through hell
and crawled and climbed up to give joy to whoever listened to her voice.
I do not want to rhapsodise, but she has the sincerity of a liberated human
being. She is an achiever. She showed the trick of patience. And all of
this in a sustained manner.

Memories
Because of her tenacity to live in Iran and endure all the restrictions
placed on her. Moreover she represents the Iran I remember as a child and
young man and the Iran which will never return.
