The following are comments in favor of film director Majid Majidi
as the Iranian of the year. Majidi, whose film "Children of Heaven"
became the first Iranian film to be nominated for an Oscar, received the
fifth largest share of the people's vote (4 percent) in The Iranian
survey. Each comment is from a different person. Names have been withheld
for reasons of privacy.

Extraordinary
The Iranian of the year in my opinion should be someone who has accomplished
something extraordinary and who thus should be recognized for that accomplishment.
Majidi has done such a thing. It is all the more extraordinary because
no other director in our nation's history has received an Oscar nomination.

Pioneer
The reason for my choice is that Mr. Majidi becomes another pioneer
Iranian to voice a nation before the worl. In a propaganda-led world people
like Majidi can present a true picture of an otherwise misrepresented and
misunderstood nation. Also he is the first Iranian whose film "Children
of Heaven" [was] nominated for an Oscar thus proving to the world
that "the next breakthrough in world cinema will be from Iran"
(quote from The Economist).

Inspirational
He is the first Iranian filmmaker whose film was nominated for an Oscar.
This will motivate and inspire other Iranian filmmakers and actors to show
their wonderful talents to the world.

My nomination for Iranian Person of the Year is Majid Majidi, the filmmaker,
whose beautiful and moving film is a symbol of Iran's cultural revival.

I made this choice because I think he should be a good director to have
the Oscar take notice of him and as an Iranian I admire him for doing so.

Because he has re-introduced the real Iranian image to the world the
way it should be -- an artistic nation with a rich culture, music and cinema.

Although I give a lot of credit to the soccer team and Delkash, I choose
Majid Majidi as the Iranian of the year.
