The following are comments in favor of editors and journalists of
the reformist press as the Iranians of the year. Collectively they received
the fourth largest share of the people's vote (6 percent) in The Iranian
survey. Each comment is from a different person. Names have been withheld
for reasons of privacy.

Heroes
The time of "one hero" has past, and it is time for the collective
efforts of people to make a difference.

Change from within
The real support and pressure within Iran comes from the efforts and
the courage of the journalists that are supporting change. If anything
changes, it will be from within the country and the press right now is
the backbone of that change alongside with students.

Irrespressible
I nominate the people of the media and newspapers whose courage are
outstanding and irrepressible and without them perhaps the Iranian people
will live in the dark from what are happening around them.

Freedom fighters
The press has continually pushed for further freedom. You could say
that they are the new freedom fighters leading the new revolution. Without
the press, Khatami would be paralyzed.

Freedom
They've tried hard to show what prees freedom means, both to people
(as their addressee) and to conservatives as the force which has pulled
them back by any means available, including prison and more!

Courage
For their courage to uphold the right to dissent and inform.

Under pressure
Under so much pressure and problems they held their ground.
TO TOP
Significant role
They had enough courage to show the first ever seen press freedom in
the history of Iran, and they played a significant role in recent reforms
of country.

For democracy
They are fighting for Iran's democracy and freedom.

Their efforts
[I vote for the press] because of their effort to exercise freedom of
speech, and to inform people of the realities.

Vitality
[I vote for] the editorial staff and oweners of Jame'eh, Tous and
Neshaat and part of the Iranian press abroad (specially Kayhan
of London). Without the courageous human-rights oriented press, the new
vitality of the Iranian society would not be possible.

Free expression
It is through free expression of ideas and thoughts that people attain
freedom.

Long-term
I think in the long-term they can bring freedom to our country!
