Royal Rebel (R) ridden by Johnny Murtagh narrowly beats Persian Punch ridden by Richard Quinn to the finish post in the Gold Cup race at Royal Ascot June 21, 2001. The Gold Cup is Acot's main event and has been running since 1807. It is one of the longest flat races on the calender at four thousand meters.
