December 3, 2002 Ghassem Saken, 7, and Hossein Saken, 13, of the mountain village of Kang near Mashhad tending their flock of sheep on a crisp Autumn day with a smittering of new snow on the ground. Kind Ghassem's repeated entreats to have tea at their house, Ramadan notwithstanding, was a welcomed gesture of their generosity and hospitality.
