Leader of the Islamic Iran Participation Front (IIPF),
Iran's biggest reform party Mohammad Reza Khatami, delivers his
speech during the 6th IIPF congress in Tehran Monday Feb. 2, 2004.
Iran's largest pro-reform party announced Monday it will boycott
Feb. 20 elections, with its leader saying the party has lost hope
that a free and fair parliamentary vote can be held as scheduled.
Mohammad Reza Khatami, the party leader and brother of the Iranian
president, said the Islamic Iran Participation Front would not
field any candidates because thousands of liberal candidates have
been disqualified from the polls by hard-line clerics of the Guardian
Council. (AP Photo/Hasan Sarbakhshian)
