For five years, Michael Sears and Hushi Mortezaie's boutique
had been an East Village fixture. With windows full of slashed
and laced "Iranian Glamazon" clothing, it was the spot
for those punk-rock enough to don a hoodie printed with images
of Islamic women, as well as being the ultimate novelty jewelry
stop for downtown stylists. So Michael & Hushi-junkies were
shocked when the store shuttered earlier this year. "This
neighborhood is finished," Mortezaie explains. "They
wanted to raise our rent! And we never had time to create. We opened
it to get notoriety -- we've done that." Since
they met in San Francisco a decade ago, Vegas-native Sears and
