is an OBE?
The Times
The Order of the British Empire was created by Britain's
King George V in 1917 to recognise the work of his subjects across
Britain
and the colonies during the First World War While the Order was
originally conceived in wartime, George V also wanted
it to be used to recognise service during peacetime, so it was
awarded for services in areas such as the civil service, the arts,
