Maryam Ansary was born 1959 in Tehran. She grew up in a middle-class family and studied physics, although she would have liked more to study art. The political circumstances forced her to run away from the Iran. Today she lives in Hannover, Germany. She is painting and working as a journalist for the "Deutschlandfunk" and the Western German Radio. 2003 her book "Flieh, bevor der Morgen graut" was published at the Ehrenwort publishing house.
