Pahlavi
Comment found with picture: 1962. Another greeting
at the North Portico of glamourous state visitors coming to dinner
-- Their Imperial Majesties The
Shahanshah and Empress Farah Diba of Iran. She wore a gown of
specially- woven gold, encrusted with gems, made for her by the
House of Dior. She brought with her what seemed like the entire
treasury of Iran in egg-sized emeralds and diamonds -- in
her tiara, necklace, on the wide ceremonial ribbon that stretched
across her shoulder, and on her fingers and wrists. She was the
same age as Jackie, also with two small children, and was a clothes
horses of equal talent. The two women were constantly being compared.
Jackie won this night by being very jeune fille in a strawberry
pink and white silk shantung gown with "only borrowed diamond
drop earrings" as ornamentation.
