Taj Mahal
"There was a work assignment system [for the construction of the
Taj Mahal, 1632-48 AD] under which the Mir-Imarat (manager of the project) assigned
a specific type of work to a headman Ustad Isa Afandi who came from Shiraz
(Iran) and was head of the naqsha-nawis (draftsmen) Department. He received
Rs. 1000/- per month for the artists who worked under him and prepared on paper,
various ground plans, cross-sections and elevations for the guidance of the builders."
