Safar bekheyr
When a member of a Muslim Iranian family is about to leave
on a trip, he or she must pass 3 times under the
holy Koran held
by the mother
or elder
female
of
the family. The departing person
then will kiss the Koran. As he or she says good-bye and starts to
leave,
they throw water from a bowl behind him and wish him or her a safe trip.
The water signifies safe return.
