Aw-jaan

Policemen in Iran are also called "aw-jaan", especially by the older generation. Where does that word come from?
It comes from "Adjutant/Adjudant", meaning staff officer >>>

Many also said "aw-jaan" probably comes from the French "Agent de Police".
