* Old recordings

I have thoroughly enjoyed your music section, not only the songs and taraneha, but also the pictures. One such picture invoked this request. I have three albums made by Cheshmak. Each Album contains six cassettes of Marzieh. I have albums 1, 2, and 4. In addition to these three albums of six cassettes each, I have her cassettes of the same series that start 20 and ends at 34.

I do not have her album 3 that would contain cassettes 13 through 18. I also do not have her cassette number 19 and any numbers past 34. The picture I saw in Marzieh's set is cassette number 20.

I would be willing to exchange copies of these cassettes with the ones I am missing. Is there anyone who has a more complete compilation of her cassettes that were made by Cheshmak.

While there is no need to mention here, I am not at all in agreement with Marzieh's political point of views or her activities associated with the Mojahedin. I have always loved her songs, her voice and I always will. My most admired Iranian singers are Ghavami and Banaan on the men side and Marzieh and Elahe on the women side. I also love Vigen and Manoochehr's songs.

Finally, I have many reel to reel tapes of old radio Iran program such as Mosabeghehe Hoosh, program by Hooshange Mostofi, Shahbaji Khanoom, recital by Roshed, Azan, and Zabihi. I also have the Norooz programs, the speeches made by Shah and Farah. No, I most definitely have speeches made by Khomeini. I even discarded his stamps even though I am a philatelist.

Kindest Regards

* Sponsorship: AidsWalk in New York City

I am participating in AIDS Walk New York (a 10K walk on May 15 starting in Central Park and continuing throughout Manhattan). This is a very important issue to me and I have set an ambitious fundraising goal of $1000, which, thankfully, I’ve already surpassed due to the generous support of family and friends.

I am now reaching out to the larger Iranian community for its help. There has been a lot of publicity about drug treatments, which prolong some people's lives but they don't work for everyone and we still don’t have a cure. Additionally, recent news reports indicate that the HIV infection rate in Iran is increasing exponentially and some statistics suggest that Iran has the highest infection rate if measured on a per capita basis. Therefore, I’m asking for your help and sponsorship. I have a personalized webpage set up where you can charge a donation, if you would like to support me.

Thank you in advance for considering sponsorship .. I greatly appreciate it.

Warm Regards,
Parissa Behnia

* For international medical students

Sent by Pedram Mizani, MD: "What we do affects 99.9% of the U.S. population; ironically, 99.9% of the U.S. population has absolutely no idea what we do!" says Dr. Pedram Mizani; a Family Medicine physician from Atlanta, Georgia, and the co-founder of Graduate Medical Consultants Group (GMCGroup). "According to the American Medical Association, it is estimated that the U.S. will face an estimated 200,000 physician shortage by the year 2020, if we don’t act now!"

We have too few U.S. medical students, resulting in 10,000 too few physicians for medical residency each year: approximately 14K U.S. medical graduates applying to about 24,000 residency positions. The remaining 10K open internship positions are filled by more than 40K competing International Medical Graduate (IMG). An IMG is a descriptive term used to identify both American and non-American medical doctors who studied medicine abroad.

"The newly publicized physician shortage data is also astounding", states Dr. Mizani, "the aging baby boomers, growing U.S. population and a significant decrease in nursing school applications enabled the U.S. Department of Census Bureau to explain why we may suffer from 1,000,000 health care provider shortage by year 2010, and the newly implemented 80 hour resident work week rule means even less help in an already understaffed medical arena. The ACGME now has to scramble to approve 10K more internship positions, bringing the total annual need for internships to 35,000. This is not a good situation for us to be in".

Quietly since the year 2000, a Georgia based company co-founded by Dr. Pedram Mizani (Family Medicine) has been making a significant difference: GMCGroup has been an avid supporter of educating the IMG before they enter U.S. residency programs under controlled teaching environments in the U.S. hospitals. As a result, GMCGroup has supervised more than 13,000 medical student clinical rotation weeks in affiliation with U.S. teaching institutions and participating U.S. physicians.

"Our healthcare alliances with teaching institutions enables us to provide our affiliate medical schools with clinical experiences that are second to none!" Dr. Mizani states firmly. "We have just finalized an exclusivity arrangement with the Tenet Atlanta Medical Center to comprehensively manage their IMG rotations. This is just one of the many contracts that we have in progress".

Our medical student body of 200 is larger than any U.S. medical school’s entering class. They enjoy a seamless transition between rotations, across 35 specialties, in prestigious institutions such as Atlanta Medical Center, Dekalb Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Northside Hospital, Henry General Hospital and Kaiser Permanente, and are trained by 180 Attending Physicians staffed at Emory University, Morehouse School of Medicine, Mercer and Medical College of Georgia... just to name a few.

Our mission is to train medical students from international medical schools who desire a career in primary care, wishing to serve the U.S. underserved population. We are here to fulfill just that.

* Going to Iran? Giving a talk?

Dear friends,

Every year, many Iranian scientists go to Iran for family visits without having an opportunity to interact with the universities there. Having thought about this issue and with the objective of promoting collaboration of Iranian academics living abroad with the scientific community in Iran, a group of us established a non-profit organization, Knowledge Diffusion Network on December 2003. To know more about this organization, you can take a look at KnowDiff.net.

Our current project is the Visiting Lecturer Program in which we try to facilitate the connection between the visitors and the universities in Iran. We plan to organize lectures and workshops for those academics who visit Iran. During the last year, we organized 18 scientific seminars in various areas in different universities in Iran such as Sharif University of Technology, Amirkabir University of Technology and Isfahan University of Technology. To see the list of all the seminars, please take a look here.

As summer is coming, many of you may be thinking of travelling to Iran to visit your friends and family. If you are a graduate student, a post-doctoral fellow, a faculty or a specialist, and plan to visit Iran and are interested in giving a lecture related to your area of research, please go to our website and fill out the form.

Best Regards,

* SuiteForPeace.com

Dear friends,

For those who know me, the desire to promote "The Arts" and to participate in the beautiful journey of human's spiritual evolution or the development of human's mind has always been the biggest motivation in life.

I have very often thought about the Rockefellers who built so many museums, or the Carnegie Hall, which was built by A. Carnegie and many others who gave their money to promote art. Oprah Winfrey just donated one million dollars to the Alvin Ailey Dance Co.

These individuals' love for art (or may be even feeling guilty for being so rich) pushes them to help the world of arts. For whatever reason or whatever the cause, the private contributions in the Western societies have helped the growth of arts at the level that we can now enjoy so much of it.

Why am I telling you all of this? Because I want us to practice the beauty in our hearts and minds to help the art of an Iranian artist. I have a friend who has made this beautiful music called "Suite for Peace." He has spent years on this work. Instead of going under lots of debt like most of us, buying a home or a brand new car or taking a vacation, he is under lots of debt for producing a CD that can call out the cry of his inner desire which is Peace and Love. Ahmad Nadimi and his wife Emiko have made a music which aspires every one to the greater part of themselves.

There are many experienced musicians who have helped make this beautiful music. Ahmad Nadimi himself is a very talented musician who has spent most of his life on his only dream which is cresting his own music. He has worked with great Iranian music masters like Mohammad Reza Lotfi. He has studied music in Iran and later in France. He has played with different contemporary bands in France. Emiko Nadimi has been a Tokyo opera singer who for the first time feels she sings a peace of music that truly expresses her heart.

Shahrdad Rohani is a well-known music conductor who has always loved to write music. He has created many pieces of music and conducted different orchestras around the world. He has directed and arranged "suite for Peace" for orchestra.

Khosro Soltani is also a well-known Europe-based Iranian artist with a very deep appreciation of music. He plays many different instruments and has worked and studied the Renascence music beside his original classical music and traditional Iranian music. You almost never see Khosro without an instrument. He has collaborated with masters such as Hossein Alizadeh at different times. The album No-baang-e Kohan is known to the lovers of the Iranian music. He has composed and produced different CDs, such as The Great Mahour (Mahour-e Kabir).

I shared with you what my heart asked me to do. I hope your heart will respond. Ahmad Nadimi has spent $70.000 to produce this CD which is not only a piece of music but it is also a cry of love, a cry for greater expectation of himself, of me, of you.

Ahmad now needs to promote his CD through different music agencies and that needs more money. You can help by buying his CD. The cost of one CD is $20.00. There is no limit on how much you can help but at minimum you can buy one CD for yourself and buy some more to give as a gift to your friends and family.

(For additional information about the songwriter or how to purchase the CDs or make your contribution please go on SuiteForPeace.com. For purchasing other works of Khosro Soltani and Shahrdad Rohani you can send an email to suitefropeace web site.)

I hope you purchase the CD and listen to it when you are in quiet, and in the stillness of your surroundings. Then you will find why did I write to you.

Please forward this letter to all the music lovers you know.

Thank you.

Sincerely

-- Soheila Yahyapoor Rubin
