June 4, 1999 (Canadian Press) -- Star striker Ali Daei, who had blown
a half-dozen chances beforehand, scored in the 71st minute Friday night
to give Iran a 1-0 victory over Canada at the Canada Cup of soccer. The
result did not reflect Iran's domination. Canada was outshot 17-2 but benefited
from some poor finishing with the lone goal coming on a majestic Daei header

is to Canadian hockey. The weight of his nation rides on Ali Daei's shoulders
and over the span of his career the 30-year-old striker has more than accepted

BONN, June 1 (Reuters) - Iranian international midfielder Mehdi Mahdavi-kia
is joining Hamburg SV from relegated VfL Bochum, a Hamburg spokesman said
on Tuesday. He said Mahdavi-kia, 21, will sign a two-year contract with
the German first division club for an undisclosed fee.
