laughed and laughed.

Mountains of reports and commentaries have made it more difficult to
put together a clear picture of this affair. But it all started here: there
was a man, there was a woman, there was an attraction and they did what
human beings do when they are attracted to each other. The rest is, well,

Liberal cleric in Iran thrown into jail
TEHRAN, Feb 28 (AFP) - A liberal cleric close to Iranian President Mohammad
Khatami, was arrested late Saturday and jailed at Evin prison in Tehran,
the official IRNA news agency reported Sunday.
Hojatoleslam Mohsen Kadivar, is also close to liberal circles and to
dissident Ayatollah Hossein-Ali Montazeri, who was once tipped to become
the nation's spiritual "guide" but who fell into disgrace in

Based on your article ["Waking
the friendly giant"], I am to assume that
you have not been to Iran for quite some time. I had an opportunity to
travel with 12 foreigners last year and we saw all the mid to southern
parts of Iran by car. We camped where we could and stayed at hotels in
locations which were dangerous due to smugglers.
I was quite surprised to see that the Iranian
historical conservation society has started to preserve historical locations.
It also charges the tourists (foreigners pay dollars and Iranians rials).
Also, there were souvenir shops and beautiful traditional coffee shops
where you could rest and have anything from cold soda to cappuccinos. I
was also amazed at the number of tour buses full of Japanese, Italian and
