TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Hard-line militants assaulted an Iranian deputy president and the culture minister on Friday as they left a prayer service in central Tehran, witnesses said. About 80 militants chanting ``Death to liberals!'' scuffled with the two, both moderates, as they left Tehran University separately after Friday prayers, said the witnesses, who spoke on condition of anonymity... * Afghan Taleban says Iran envoys may be dead

ISLAMABAD, Sept 3 (Reuters) - Afghanistan's Taleban militia said on Thursday at least 10 missing Iranian diplomats may be dead as tensions with Tehran escalated after 70,000 Iranian troops participated in war games on their common border. Amnesty International reported on Thursday that 10 Iranian diplomats and one journalist ``are said to have been killed when the Taleban guards entered the Iranian consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif.'' ... DUBAI, Sept 3 (Reuters) - Large-scale Iranian manoeuvres on the border with Afghanistan are a warning to the Taleban militia which they cannot afford to ignore, military analysts said on Thursday. State-run Tehran radio quoted judiciary spokesman Fotovat Nassiri-Savadkuhi as saying that a court in Tehran would hear charges filed by Iranian victims of chemical attacks against the German firms ...
