Drumbeats of war... again!
by Vahid Naraghi
19-Oct-2007

On September 22nd, 1980 when Saddam's air force bombed all major airports in Iran, including Mehrabad International Airport, I went to the roof of our home in southern Tehran and watched the black smokes rising to the sky, with shock and despair. I never forget the sad and helpless feeling of that moment; my beloved country where I was born and raised was under attack! Suddenly, I remembered all the invasions that Iran (or Persia) had suffered throughout the history and I had learned about in school; the destructions, devastations and bloodshed that would follow.

I was a teenager at the time and was (and still am) so proud of my country's rich history and culture. So, I felt like I had to do something, and that I did. The following days, I signed up to join the army and during the next two and a half years I spent fighting off Saddam's forces in front line trenches in south and western parts of Iran, along with tens of thousands of young volunteers and regular army who courageously and selflessly defended the mother land and prevented Saddam's forces from further advancing inland and in fact kicked them all the way back to behind international borders, despite all the support Saddam enjoyed at the time from the west. Sadly of course, in the process, countless number of these young Iranians, including some of my close comrades were killed or maimed or captured.

Every Iranian village or town which was liberated from occupation, had been leveled to ground by the dark forces of aggression. I could not help but feel endlessly sad witnessing the devastation, as if they were my own home and neighborhood. I remember when we arrived in Khoramshahr after its liberation (BTW, before liberation the city was called Khooneenshahr, literally meaning Blood-soaked City, as so many had lost their lives defending it), there was only ONE building still standing! One! EVERY other building in this previously beautiful port city on the Persian Gulf had been burnt and destroyed to dust, apparently with direct order from Saddam! As if the dark forces intended to send us a message of their cruelty and hatred towards our land and people.

Today, I feel lucky to be still alive and tell these stories. That was my fate, but ironically, these days, I feel the same as I did on that Summer morning 27 years ago. I now live in California and don't intend to join the army any time soon(!), however, I can fight against possible military invasion of my country of birth once more, this time using my pen, instead of a gun! The point is, if I oppose any kind of military attack against Iran, it's not just a rhetoric or an intellectual gesture, it's because I have experienced and lived through one, with blood and flesh and still have nightmares about it every now and then.

Now, 27 years later, we hear the drumbeats of war....again! One has to have lived in outer space in the past few years, not to hear those drums and not to know that Iran is being threatened on a daily basis, and there is a growing danger of another mischief by the dark forces, and this time, by their masters, themselves! Likes of Rumsfeld who provided the material and training of chemical weapons to Saddam so he could use it against our people (and incidentally, many of whom are still suffering a gradual painful death), are now planning and threatening to take action directly against Iran, rather than through their puppets such as Saddam. And as usual, the corporate media in the U.S. are in the process of numbing the American people with their venoms into accepting yet another devastating war, and laughingly enough with the same exact excuses: WMD! What did it stand for again? Weapons of Mass Deceptions??!!

If you feel angry, disappointed and helpless about this situation, you must know you are not alone. But, the only good news is, there are in fact many things we can do about it, peacefully, legally and safely! They range from participating in peaceful anti-war demonstrations and writing to the editorials of the local or national newspapers to writing to or meeting with your congressperson and senators demanding them for actions against a war with Iran. Although, individual actions are useful and effective and highly recommended, in my view, the most effective of all are the organized actions. If you have read or heard about the effectiveness and influence of AIPAC on the U.S. politics you must know what I am talking about! The conclusion: We, the Iranian-American community, must have our own AIPAC!

The good news is we do! As some readers may already know, NIAC (National Iranian American Council (www.niacouncil.org) is a grass root organization founded by several extremely hardworking, honest and knowledgeable Iranians, dedicated to encouraging Iranian-Americans to participate more actively in the local and national U.S. politics in matters related to their community and beyond.

The members regularly meet with key congresspersons and senators and try to educate them about Iran and Iranian Americans and their contributions to American society, in hope of persuading them to take more rational positions when it comes to Iran and Iranians. Recently, NIAC's extensive lobbying helped water down an anti-Iran resolution passed by the Congress. What matter is more important at the moment for our community than a threat of war against our country of birth, where most of us have friends, families and loved ones and a lot of us visit regularly?!

In order to continue its positive efforts whose results affect all of us, NIAC needs more help and support from our community. There is an estimated one million Iranians-Americans living in the U.S. and I can proudly claim that many of them are extremely successful and wealthy. If all or most of us unite on crucial issues such as this and support NIAC, the impact will be tremendous. There is no reason why NIAC can not be as effective and powerful as AIPAC. Imagine if every Iranian chip in $5 and one hour of their time a month, that's five million dollars and one million hours a month! That will go a very long way in educating the American public, media and the politicians about Iranians' contributions to the world. It's a Public Relation War that we have to win first in order to prevent a real war!

Now, I want you to set aside your political views about Iran for a moment and think about the safety and security of your loved ones still living in there. If you don't happen to have any loved ones living in Iran, think about your kindergarten and elementary school classmates, your teachers, your neighbors and their families. Take some action to prevent another war, regardless of what you think of the current regime or president in Iran.

Do it as long as you are against any military aggression against your country of birth, country of Hafez, Saadi, Ferdowsi and Khayyam. Country of Kiarostami, Makhmalbaf, Shajarian, Ali Daei, Simin Daneshvar, Ahmad Shamloo and many others. Do it if you admire Isfahan with all its beautiful domes and architectures, Yazd with its Fire Temples and Shiraz with its magnificent gardens. Do it if you still remember driving to Shomal via Chaloos road, or you cherish Kish Island and the warm waters of Persian Gulf. Do it for the sake of more than five thousand years of documented history, civilization, art and culture. Do it for the sake of humanity. Do it now, because tomorrow might be too late!

Start today! Go to NIAC website (www.niacouncil.org) and join them and support them in any way you can.

Let's all hope for a peaceful, prosperous and democratic Iran, built by Iranians themselves and not through the barrel of aggressor's gun!

Religions

by Ampbreia (not verified) on

"Zartosht, Judaisim, Christianity, Islam and others came to teach us how to be humans."

Please, tell that to the people who live under Sharia law... expecially the women or all of the victims of all of the wars fought in the name of religion or all of the people who have ever been abused by other religionists for not belonging to the same religion as their abusers. I think we'd all be better off without religion. It hurts more than it helps.

That said, I hope the U.S. does not go to war with Iran. It's not worth American lives unless in counterattack from an Iranian attack in the U.S. Otherwise, Iranians should be left alone to take charge of their own situation. War is an ugly thing even when it's careful. Too much is destroyed by it; too many innocent people killed.

One more thing. Iran, MY county, the one you CLAIM you are trying to defend has already been invaded and devestated in 1979 and is living under bloody brutal occupation since that time. How come you and jerks liek you aren't against that?
Inquiring minds wish to know.

One more time, use a more appropriate name for yourself. Like Adolf, Rudolf, Ruhollah, Sayyed ali, Ali akbar, Sayyed Mohammad, Yasser or Mahdi. OK?

Ari,

Not only did you prove by your response to me that yopu are a hot blooded anti-semite (Zionist, Neocon, warmonger! They are all teh same to you. Zionist are not Jews? This can copme out of the mouth of Hitler or any other pertty filthy anti-semitic jerk just like you!), but that you are an idiot as well.
A funny one though.
You are against invasion of Iran. SO am I. Are you deaf? I am saying the only chance we have of preventing an attack is through the fall of your mullah masters, not by stupid dramatic protests like these. Get real.
I ask you once again, STOp using a false name for your miserable self.
Ari is a Hebrew name meaning lion. It does not become you and you do not desreve it anyways.
I find it insulting that you pathetic anti-semite anti-iranian mullah lover use such a name to hide behind.
Clear?

Dear Ari,

by Austin Powers (not verified) on

Ari,

You sound like a very intelligent woman. And you know that America has gone to war several times since WWII. Most of these wars were wrong in the ideal sense that you highlight. Iraq is a war for oil and supporting our ally Israel. Iran is for the same reason. Why would we sit idle while Iran threatens our ally Israel and our interests in the region. Most wars are not ideal in any sense! One fact is that they do occur. My point, look around and you will see that the war is coming to your nation. Unfortunately most of your country men do not understand the gravity of the situation. The war will come and it will be hard for America and Britan.
Your nation does not have the power to stand up to the superpowers of the world. Iran will be another Vietnam for the US and may be Britan! But it will happen. There are powerful forces that will make sure this will happen. I have no idea where you live but here in the US and the western world, listening to the media, it looks like the same pattern that we had prior to the Iraq war. Listen to Fox news or CNN headline news. So whether you agree with it or not, the war will happen. Our interests has to be protected. Please do me a favor and get real. I love your ideal tone though! Ya baby!!

I guess you have been watching too many Rambo movies as opposed to reading the news paper and watching the news. Yes, we all know that you invaded Iraq, it has been over 4 years now, but that is not the issue. The "MISSION IN IRAQ" AUSTIN IS NOT OVER! Have you not noticed that you have failed miserably, I mean BIG TIME; even with the biggest, largest, mightiest, super duper (I hope these adjectives are serving your lop sided ego)army in the world!!

I suggest instead of speaking the way you do, you go and get some education and learn how to first speak properly before you attempt to teach someone you have no clue about, what she knows or does not know. What is clear, and it doesn't take a genius (and obviously you don't seem to fall into that category) is that the U.S. has failed, plain and simple. I understand that for warmongers like you just like the idiot sitting in the White House, this is not easy to swallow. However, at one point, you have to face the facts, and save your tax dollars for your kids, as opposed to the Black Water mercenaries and all the other thugs you are supporting in Iraq. As such, since you are already caught in a "quagmire" in Iraq, I would not be boasting about going after Iran, with an army far more larger and more sophisticated than that of Iraq's, and a population of 75,000,000 who will all stand in line and fight to death before they allow one inch of their soil to be occupied by any foreign occupier. If you haven't learned your lesson from Iraq, I would definitely suggest that you don't make the same stupid and idiotic mistake again. You know what they say about fools don’t you? Remember we are not playing war, this is not a game, this is the real world and human lives are at stake. We are not here to support your ego; we are here to protect lives of the innocent and prevent destruction of countries and stop the blistering deficit that is bringing this country to its knees. Come down from planet Mars or wherever the hell you are stuck and go and beg your Congressmen/women to bring back the troops and start negotiating with Iran with no preconditions! Do you understand English or do you need a translator? Oh, yes, and one final comment, any idiot can start a war, the point is have you won the battle? The answer is NO! Here lies the problem with your obtuse remarks.

Austin Powers:

I can't believe that you are a decent American or British citizen making such crude statements.

Shame on you! You are a coward who is gleeing with joy for yet another catastrophic war. Maybe you should read what this brave American soldier has to say about the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq, before you and your type sitting in the comfort of your homes push the young youth of this country towards another war. Then if you are still an advocate of another war, why don't you be the first one to sign-up courageously and leave your luxury life here and go and do the fighting based on another set of lies. Nop, I guess not, you want others to do your dirty job for you. It ain't going to happen this time NOT ON OUR WATCH!! NO MORE DEATH OF INNOCENT AMERICAN LIVES, NO MORE WARS, NO MORE DESTRUCTION OF COUNTRIES, NO MORE DEATHS OF THE INNOCENT.

Open Letter to the Government from an AWOL Soldier

//afterdowningstreet.org/circello

By James Circello, Iraq Veterans Against The War

To those Businessmen and women holding seats in Congress,
To the Highest Court of America,
To every Department within the U.S. government,
To the President's Cabinet,
To the Joint Chiefs of Staff,
To the Vice President and President of the United States of America:

My name is James Circello. I am sure some of you already know who I am now that wiretaps and spying on American citizens has been approved.

Or maybe you've heard of me when you saw my name on a comprehensive list of Anti-War activists.

Or maybe you just know of me because I was a Sergeant in the United States Army and served as an Airborne Infantryman for six years, went to Iraq in March 2003 and served until March 2004, remained in the Army a little longer before refusing to take part in the Occupation of the Middle East and went AWOL.

I am writing you today, not asking for forgiveness for what I decided to do, but to give you an idea of what brought me to that decision to leave the Army and speak out against the Occupation. Though some will claim I left for other reasons and will try to force the discussion away from the facts and at the same time attempt to assassinate my character with half truths and out right lies, these are the facts. If later we wish to get into more of my personal life, we can do that: I have no fear of it.

I will first like to say that I am no longer a member of the United States Armed Forces. When I left the military on Easter morning, April 2007, I have officially resigned from service to that military. There are no ties between myself and an oppressive military regime set on occupying groups of impoverished indigenous people.

I am no longer a Sergeant or a paratrooper.

I will not respect an organization that can and does, at its own will, change entire enlistment contracts for the purpose of extending soldiers;

Gives quarterly sexual harassment courses and still allows roughly 30% of women to be sexually assaulted in some way, shape or form;

Openly discriminates against people based on homosexuality, race, gender and ethnic background;

Allows crimes against humanity and peace to occur and covers them up with internal
investigations;

Actively recruits young boys and girls from low level income high schools and communities with false promises of health care, school and job experience and fails on all accounts;

Refuses to recognize conscientious objectors (C.O.), and when individuals apply for C.O. status that are administratively "punished" by their chain of command;

I refuse to be a part of a military and Administration that continue to abuse and torture, doesn't recognize the rights of detainees and allows them to be shipped to secret detention facilities for "National Security" purposes; a military that is illegally, based on all U.S. as well as International Law, inside of Iraq; a military that is over extended, under funded in a war with no foreseeable end (because time tables give our enemy a "sense of victory", but how can the enemy have victory when "Mission Accomplished" has been declared?); a military that watches billions of government contracts given to private military outfits, while they run through the streets of Iraq unchecked, and allows soldiers to be poorly equipped and the V.A. poorly funded.; the No Child Left Behind Act and it's policy of making it mandatory for schools to send out the information of all students attending the school to military recruiters, or they are threatened with being cut off from Federal funding (I thought school was a place of
learning, not a place of turning our youth into the:
"(insert Arabic country name here) Veterans Against The War".

This and many other reasons are why I tell you today, I do not recognize any of the warrants that may have been placed upon me. These warrants are merely a way to silence any opposition to this criminal war. I do not support the United States foreign policy and will not be the fool that enforces it.
The United States has a history of using the poor of this country to massacre and oppress the poor of other countries and I say to everyone that is able to read this - I am no longer a member of the United States Armed Forces.

I also say, this by no way makes me Un-American. I love this country and feel very strongly that it can be saved and that it must be saved.

I say this without a growing ego, but my acts as of now are what the Founding Fathers envisioned and wrote about. This is what Democracy looks like.

Dissent isn't Un-American, it is what Patriotism means.
Patriotism is not blindly following a Flag waver, it is Direct Action.

I joined the Army after the towers of New York fell. Swept up in the fervor, I left college to enlist. My country was attacked - I, like many, wanted to defend it.

But here is where a majority of Americans, as well as Politicians have made their largest mistake: Defending your country does not mean destroying other Nations
out of and/or for Revenge. But the People bought into the outcry that we must kill to feel better, and the Politicians sang their songs and danced their dances, in an attempt to show who was the most Patriotic of them all!

America stayed fixed to the lies from Fox News (can it really be called "News"?) and we watched the towers fall so many thousands of times until we were all ready to go kill and die for the Eagle and Red, White and Blue.

Though, I will admit, I was angry and young but it didn't take me too long to see that this wasn't about defending America, but creating an entirely new enemy.

It was all there.
It was almost too perfect.

They are of different color.
They speak a different language.
They are a people that have been made to be poor - not a people that are poor; there is a difference.
They follow a strange religion that Americans don't understand! A religion so very similar to Christianity, that - get this - it recognizes almost the same individuals as being Prophets that the Bible does.
They "hate us (you) for our (your) freedom".
They will come here and kill our women and children if we do not go there and kill their women and children first.

The Administration and all of Its men and women sold it and America bought it.

How many people got chills when the American flag was placed there at Ground Zero? Remember when there were so many flags outside of houses, and flag stores ran out of them?

So I went to Iraq and I saw their faces. People that I thought wanted to kill me, and hated me because I was free, brought me into their homes, offered me food and something to drink.

Was the food poisoned? No.

Was it a poor family that could barely afford the food they were offering, but offered it to me without charge or regret? You bet.

I was quickly disillusioned by the military. Senators and Representatives from Congress would come to visit us - and we would be told to get everything clean for the Dog and Pony Show.

We would up the security levels, to make everything look ship-shape. When it was time for the questions and answers portion, we would never be without a question, because the chain of command was always there for us - and thankfully they had come up with the questions we were allowed to ask our Representatives. This is what happens every time someone from D.C. came for a little sight seeing visit. I can only imagine what kinds of shows they put on now.

Long story short, I left Iraq feeling really uncomfortable with America's position in this entire conflict. It didn't feel right. It didn't look right. And after much soul searching and researching, I discovered that it plain out just wasn't right.

It took me a while to finally decide to leave. I wanted to leave prior to invading Iraq, while witnessing the illegal "Shock and Awe" that killed so many innocent people and destroying the infrastructure of the country that we hadn't destroyed from the first bombings in the Gulf War and what wasn't antiquated and useless from the illegal sanctions held over the heads of the every day Iraqi citizen.

I fell for the trap of "don't let your buddies down". And what a well spun web it is. I can not control the conscience of another man. I can only follow mine. And after deciding what I believe in is not consistent with the United States military and learning that "don't let your buddies down" is just a form of domination through guilt, I left my post in Italy to return to America. I began speaking out against this Occupation. I do not fear arrest. I do not stay hidden. I go to all national events and travel the country at my own leisure.

I say this to you Congressional Democrats: you have failed us. I delayed my AWOL, because when I learned both Houses of the Congress were controlled by Democrats I was confident that the war was finally over. You ran on the platform of ending the war. I told all of my friends to just hang on, it will be over very soon. You funded the war and you continue to fund it. By no means is my hostility solely directed towards the Republican bench of the government. You lied to the American people, and more so, you failed the American people. We are finally awake and more and more are realizing that we don't have a two party system in America, we have a single party that is not representing the will of the People.

The People say end the war. Stop funding the Occupation. The Soldiers want to come home. The insane idea of we must stay in Iraq and Afghanistan so that these thousands of soldiers will not have died in vain should never be said again! We tried saying that in Vietnam! The Iraqi people are strong and can defend themselves. They also want us out.

It took years for a G.I. Resistance to begin within the Military during Vietnam, but I am telling you right now - the feeling of resentment is there. The feeling that Politicians and Businesses are profiting off of this Occupation while we suffer through extended tours and battle Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, depleted uranium, losing friends and family, losing our lives through wounds.

We come home and barely have time to adjust to being home before we begin training to leave again.

Families are falling apart.
Iraqis are dying.
For what?
A red, white and blue flag that says, "I'm a Patriot"?
Dissent is Patriotic.

Open discussion is Patriotic (this to Speaker of the House Pelosi who refuses to have an open forum with the people of her district. I believe it is going on just over 2 Years now.)

And I say to you dissent is filling the ranks of the military and it doesn't even need a charismatic figurehead to come forth and say "Dissent; Desert!". They are doing it and will keep doing it.

And the military's attempt to censor free speech will not contain it. Blogs, Youtube, Myspace: these sights, and others, weren't blocked for any reason other than these are the most popular places to find out that the G.I. Resistance Movement is growing daily.

So proud Patriots of America, I ask you today for nothing. You are my Employee, never forget that. My tax dollars pay your salary, never forget that.

I do however have demands for you:

-End the Occupation Now. Not tomorrow.

-Bring home all American troops. Replace them with a true international coalition designed specifically for peace keeping operations, NOT military operations.

-Remove all U.S. contractors from the Middle East that continue to benefit off of the death of the Iraqi and Afghan people and the destruction of their countries.

-Allow the Afghan and Iraq governments the freedom to decide what kind of country they want to be in, not what kind of country we want them to have.

-Allow the Afghan and Iraq governments freedom to choose who is given reconstruction contracts - which none should be American companies, for obvious reasons.

-Fund in full all reconstruction projects in Afghanistan and Iraq: We destroyed their countries, by International Law we must pay. By Moral virtue we must pay.

-Support the Troops means take care of them when they come home, not blindly fund their continued existence in a war zone - Completely fund the V.A. Department!

-Fund the Levees; Do NOT allow another Hurricane Katrina or Rita.

-Oversight on Gulf Region reconstruction (where is it?) - I was just in New Orleans, it is still a disaster area two years later. Fix it now.

-Open Diplomatic negotiations with Iran - Do not allow another war to take place. We have Diplomats that are paid by taxpayers to do just that: to Talk and Discuss. Use Diplomats not Depleted Uranium and Cruise Missiles.

I also want to say this before I close, I wrote it in a letter, just yesterday, to the people of Italy that stand up and actively oppose more U.S. military bases in their country. And it says:

The Iraq war is a War of Aggression, led by a cry of "We Will Never Forget"; the famous quote from September 11, 2001. Well, I have something to say for the people of the World and to the People of this Administration, as well as to the members of the U.S. Congress.

We WILL never forget.

We will never forget that the men who hijacked those aircraft on September 11, 2001 were not Iraqi.

We will never forget that Iraq had no Weapons of Mass Destruction (W.M.D) when we invaded.

We will never forget that the W.M.D's that Iraq did have years before, were sold to them by the U.S. Government.

We will never forget the millions of Iraqi men, women and children who have suffered through the Dictatorship of Saddam Hussein, The Iraq-Iran War, The Gulf War, Depleted Uranium, Years of Illegal Sanctions, Shock and Awe, "Liberation" from a Tyrant only to find a new Tyrant take his place.

We will never forget the 2 million of Iraqi men, women and children who are now displaced refugees within their own country.

We will never forget the 1.5 million refugees in Syria, the 775,000 refugees in Jordan and the nearly 200,000 refugees in Egypt.

We will never forget the 1 million dead Iraqi men, women and children since March 2003.

We will never forget that nearly 100,000 Iraqis flee the country each month since 2003.

We will never forget the widows, widowers and orphans of those dead.

We will never forget the effects of depleted uranium in American ammunition that litters the countries of the Middle East.

We will never forget the increased infant mortality rate. The sewage on the streets. The sectarian violence that was never in the streets of Iraq until we installed a Pro-U.S. Government.

We will never forget the destruction of Shock and Awe that destroyed Iraq's entire infrastructure.

We will never forget Abu Ghraib.

We will never forget the Lost men and women of Guantanamo Bay and other Secret U.S. Detention facilities.

We will never forget the every day Iraqi that is gunned down at a Traffic Control Point by a tired American teenager.

We will never forget the sounds of Improvised Explosive Devices (I.E.D) directed not at the American soldier, but at American Policy.

We will never forget the Women and Children gunned down at random after an I.E.D. explodes, because they were working the vegetable fields and were frightened and began to run.

We will never forget that War is, in fact, Terrorism. And America is the largest State Sponsor of Terrorism.

We will never forget that the Men, Women and Children of the Middle East may be of the same color as Saddam Hussein, but they do not have his face. They are not him. They do not deserve what they have been made to endure.

And we will never forget that corporations are profiting off of the death and destruction.

We will never forget that Blackwater and other private armies, which are in themselves illegal, are running around the Middle East killing at will - and are left unchecked.

We will never forget amazing photo opportunities with the soldiers, whether its walking through a market in Iraq with security all around you and Apaches in the air, or sitting on the deck of a ship under a "Mission Accomplished" banner.

We will never forget that a majority of the American population want the Occupations to end and we will keep repeating it until you do what you are paid to do - and that is, Listen to the People.

The People are United and I know that attempts will be made to have me appear a fool and soon you will have my grade school photographs, my coloring books, a list of every library book I have ever checked out, and whatever other records these incredibly large and over-funded Secret Agencies compile on Activists in America, but I do not fear you.

You have no moral authority over me.
Or any authority at all.
I do not fear you.
Any of you.

United within The Struggle,

Interesting where was the hate in my comment? Obviously you are the one filled with hate and obviously I touched on a soft spot, you are either a "ZIONIST", a "NEOCON" or a "WARMONGER" either way you belong in the same trash bin as all of these hatemongering, racist, fascist, imperialist idiots.

And as usual anyone who defends Iran's sovereign rights and is against, sanctions and military intervention is called by "YOUR TYPE", pro IRI and anti-Semitic.

If it makes you feel happy, that I am against any invasion by a foreign country to my mother land, and the destruction and death of innocent Iranian people to serve your personal gratification by all means call me pro IRI, call me pro Mullah, call me whatever you want. These words don't bother me at all. So continue your trashy, vulgar and indecent remarks, one doesn't expect much from "YOUR KIND" anyway.

You must be a Zionist for calling me and anyone who dares to defends the rights of Iran and its people anti-Semitic. What did anything I had to say have to do with being anti-Semitic, unless of course you are a Zionist!! AND FYI ZIONIST HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING JEWISH. THE TWO ARE VERY SEPARATE AND DISTINCT. SO DON'T OFFEND THE JEWISH RACE!

Stop the lies and the hate!

by Ahmadreza Khojastetabaar (not verified) on

Hey Ari,
Why don't you write with your real name?
Why do you use this name. It has meaning and it belongs to decent people not the likes of you anti-semitic idiot.
You can go and support mullah lobby bastards at CASMII NIAC or anyother traitor criminal loving loud mouth propaganda fascists. Just spare us the nonsens OK.
There is not going to be a war with Iran, unless NIAC and the likes mess the chance for a peacful regime change, by opposing any sanctions and any support for democratic and liberal forces in Iran.
So you can shout as much as you like, but it ain't gonna help you and your mullah loving friends.
Use your btains and grow up for a change. Your lot are a disgrace to our Iran.

Yes. I was a victim of the Iran-Iraq war and lost my legs ...

by Gholam Ali Gameeshabadi (not verified) on

Yes, indeed, I was sacrificed for a donkey's koss during the Iran-Iraq war. People used to say that young kids were being "Fadayeh Keer Khar" in a way questioning the objective of the war. Of course, we all knew that the war was instigated by the late ayatollah Khomenei because he wanted to export his revolution to the neighboring countries in the region.

It is your duty to defend it at all cost.

by Bavafa on

Thank you Vahid Jan for your sacrifice and services. Likewise thank you for fighting again this time around. Like yourself, I fought against that aggression between 81-83 and I remember well when Khoramshahr was librated, I was in Abadan that day. I still get goosebumps when I remember/think about that day. I volunteer to fight and no I wasn't Bassigi, in fact I had been arrested and harassed by them many times, but my decision to fight Iraqis had nothing to do with them and all to do with when some one attacks your "home", it is your duty to defend it at all cost. Anyway, its been a long time now.. but it seems we are about to face another aggression which I will go and fight again if it comes to it. One last word, I totally agree with you about being organized and have looked at a number of organized group and agree, NIAC has been the most sensible group that I have found that is pushing for the Iranian people, so I proudly contributed both financially and with my signature many times and encourage all to do the same.

Donkey?

by Ampbreia (not verified) on

Okay, I don't mean to be offensive, but I have to ask: you were doing the donkey? Is that only because Islam doesn't allow normal relations between men and women, or...?

For all of that, I can well understand your disenchantment with the IRI. Me too. I was married to an Iranian, couldn't live without civil rights, and eventually escaped back to the U.S. In the election that voted in Ahmadajine (however you spell that) I actually recieved a post card from Iran ordering me to vote from my choice of mullahs/mullah supporters: choose trash, garbage, the Devil, Satan, or just sheer evil. Oh gee, what a choice. I refused of course.

But the U.S. can't fix things for Iran, whether by war or other means. That would only be messy and violent and go awry, causing the deaths of way too many people even though civilian deaths would be avoid. Collatoral damage still happens but one would hope it far less so if the fixing were by insiders who could see and easily identify the real target.

Iranians brought the mullahs into power. I know this. I was there to see it. And only Iranians can remove them... but never peacefully. No. The Islamic Regime holds power by force and thus must be removed by force. And, trust me, you don't want an outside nation to do that for you. As mentioned above, you have to do it yourselves or there will a heavy price to pay.

Someone else here wrote "The path to self-determination is through indigenous democracy" and I agree with him. I will also say, I don't believe that indigenous democracy is possible in Islam because Islam is totalitarian by nature.

Thank you Vahid

by Ari (not verified) on

Dear Vahid:
Thank you for being a true nationalist, and defending our mother land against Saddam's army. Thank you for putting your pen to paper and attempting to raise the conscious of Iranian-Americans toward their obligation to their native homeland. Unfortunately, as I read some of these comments coming from so called "Iranians", I come to the conclusion that with traitor compatriots like these who needs enemies. Fortunately, there are many more compassionate, carrying, and true lovers of Iran who think as you do. The regime of a country does not determine ones' love for ones' country, people, culture and civilization. Any Iranian who seeks the destruction of Iran simply because of their hatred for the regime, is not an Iranian, but an enemy of Iran and its people. As such, their voices here do not matter! We throw them in the same bucket as the neocons, the Zionists, and the warmongers.

As for the rest of us we will support CASMII, NIAC and any other anti-war organization who are working hard to prevent harm to come to our mother land and our people. A change for a better Iran will come directly from the people of Iran and not by any foreign intervention and an attack on its soil.

You can be against any war with Iran, which will set the democracy back for decades, without joining an IRI lobby such as NIAC. NIAC is run by Trita Parsi, a well known protector of IRI's interest in Washington.

My Question is: will you put your life on line for democracy? Or, You just want to see 2M innocent lives lost just for the sake of you returning to Iran and taking a position in a public office or something?

Loose selfishness; Peace and prosperity for all humanity.

You can sign petitions of Moveon.org or...

by Azarin Sadegh on

I have lived through the first 3 years of Iran-Iraq war and some part of the following 5 years of it when I had to go back during summer. So, I think for anyone with similar experience this push for another war on Iran is not comprehensible. But I can also understand some people's concern about NIAC and their possible links to the current regime in Iran. I think as an Iranian (a privileged Iranian who has the option of living in a war free zone far from Iran) it is irresponsible to ignore the calls to a new war on Iran. I am sure if they had lived through one night of bombing, they wouldn't sound so heartless.  So if anyone does not approve and doesn't trust NIAC, still he/she can sign any of these other petitions against the war on Iran to show their empathy towards the Iranians who don't have a choice.

These petitions are set up by very well-known organizations like:

Moveon.org //pol.moveon.org/noescalationiniran/

or

democracyInAction //democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/Peaceact/petition.jsp?petition_KEY=358

or

care2 //www.care2.com/c2c/share/detail/509247

Actually there are a considerable number of these petitions online that you can easily find.

Here's the break down

by dreamer (not verified) on

Let's not make this too confusing: This letter simply asks the reader to organize and lobby U.S government, not to start a war with Iran.

It suggests NIAC as an effective organization to do so.

The questions that should be asked are the followings,

1-Is the threat of U.S attack real?
2-If yes, could a strong lobby against the war help prevent this attack?
3-If U.S does not attack Iran, is there a chance for Iran to attack ***U.S*** (not any other country but U.S) in the short or long term?
4-Is it in the best interest of U.S to attack Iran?
5-Is it in the best interest of Iranian people if U.S attacks Iran?

Based on answer to the above questions one can determine if he/she should join NIAC or any other lobby organization that can have the desired impact.

I am ashamed of knowing that an iranian is making such comments.
You must be very ignorant to think Bush is going to bring Iran Democracy!!
Democracy doesn't even exist here any more. It is just a word and an excuse to fill up riches pockets more and more and drive the poor further and further down to devestation.
people like you and your ignorance are what has enabled Bush and his allies commit such horrific crimes against humanities in recent years and not to have to answer to anyone.

ONLY WE CAN FREE IRAN

by no_name (not verified) on

Our biggest problem since the devolution has been our over-reliance on the foreign intervention. It seems like we all sit in coffee shops and dream about this foreign hand reaching down from the heavens and turning Iran into the next Japan--yeah, right!

ONLY WE CAN FREE IRAN!

Just look at what CIA did in Afghanistan, trying to "free" them from the Soviets

Look at Iraq!

Look at Cambodia or Vietnam

Please wake up...no foreign country, or government delesh braya ma nemee soozeh!

Only we can free our people and country and a military action from a country who only wants our oil will not solve our issues.

Also, take look at this site, I bet some of these comments are driven from this software:

To Vahraz

by Vahid Naraghi (not verified) on

Dear Vahraz and others for reading my article and expressing your opinion...Regarding the point you made, yes, technically you are right, and Khoramshahr is connected to Persian Gulf through Arvand Rood and it's not ON the Persian Gulf. I apologize for the error, but considering the fact that I wrote the article at 2 in the morning, and I was actually there twenty something years ago, it should be understandable! Besides, Arvand Rood near Persian Gulf is so big that it doesn't resemble a river anymore, and it's more like an extension of the Gulf! Anyway, after entering Khoramshahr, it was so hot (around 45-50 degrees C) that my comrades and I jumped in the water (Arvand Rood) for a quick swim to cool off, suddenly, the Iraqis started shelling very close to us and I remember some of the shells fell and exploded in the water near us! So, we got out naked to find a shelter!

If you are still not convinced, provide an email address and I will send you some of my pictures from that time! Perhaps I will post some on this site anyway....

Thanks again for all of your comments, specially all those warm words of support. Remember, this is not about me, this is about our beloved country Iran and how we can avert another war. I was just a drop in the sea....

You see that you are amongst many friends thinking like you.  Things are not as hopeless as you thought.

As MI said - All the Islamic Republic is good at is PR !! money driven PR - while the majority of Iranians are too busy with their Friday night rituals and concerts.   But the good news is that the inept Iranian silent majority is waking up - thank god finally - as you can see.   Whatever you do don't fall pray to the IRI anti-war campaign.   there will never be a war - just direct assaults against the mullahs.   How can we not stand up to the mullah lies and crimes.   Peaceful sentiments are great - but there is a time for love and peace - and then there is time to stand-up and defend the fort.   Trust me - we all seek the best solution salvaging all we can - but good must take a stand - right now and today.   If you don't stand for something - you will fall for anything !!!

BTW - let me also explain something else about IRI PR.  at least 90% of the pro IRI material, or sentiments indirectly supporting the mullahs are PR driven - including the stuff you read on NY Times, or see on CNN!!   IRI spends Millions $ on PR - that is in fact all they are good at.   Many posts here are made by college students posing as war Veterans !!  for as little as $200/month !!!
