Look at the commander
by Fair on Fri Apr 24, 2009 06:33 PM PDTSarlashgar Firoozabadi, the commander of "setad-e-moshtarak" is just a fat slob who has absolutely no military training and they just gave him a rank to oversee the military. I feel sorry for the poor Sarlashgar Salehi (commander of artesh) who actually knows what he is talking about but has to report to the slob.
Also, notice the air force commander Sartip Shah Safi- he said there was no parade of jets because of lack of visibility. Funny because there were plenty of helicopters and visibility looked fine to me.. if you can't fly in a straight line formation in such weather you can't claim to be in the post 1950's era of aviation....
What a shame, we were once the top military in the region.

I Want to See the Fat Guy Run....
by Anonymous Joojeh (not verified) on Fri Apr 24, 2009 03:07 PM PDTWhat a shame....these poor soldiers are going to be sacrificed for another IRI lost battle at some point...remember that this guy had a lot of parades like this as well:
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlupjwnoOTo
and with one American fart he went into hiding in a spider hole.
Parades like this are perfect examples of a dictatorship that wants to show its muscle to the domestic population, and are intended for domestic consumption only. No well equipped modern military will take this dog and pony show seriously.
I feel for them...
by Fair on Fri Apr 24, 2009 02:29 PM PDTOf course I am proud to see a well organized disciplined armed forces parade in my country, these soldiers are Iranian.
But from a miitary standpoint, a parade like this neither impresses me nor not impresses me.
Modern war is not determined by large number of infantry. That was WWI. What matters is the equipment, training, and technology they have.
Anybody who thinks the US thinks twice about this military when they consider military action against Iran is just plain uninformed. The biggest obstacles to US action against Iran are political and economic, not military.
Yes, if the US tries a land invasion to occupy all of Iran (which is not what it wants) it just does not have the sheer number of troops to occupy and control all those cities. But if it wants to bomb anywhere in Iran or take control of any of its airfields, oilfields, ports, nuclear sites, it can do it militarily no problem. The problem is what happens next to the price of oil, markets, etc. One Iranian missile even just almost getting to a Saudi oil fields can cause an economic shock.
This is not 1980 when Iraq invaded Iran. Back then, Iran had more numbers, better weapons, and a better military so even though the revolution had disrupted everything, Iran could kick some serious butt with what it had remaining. Today none of that would happen. Anybody knowing remotely anything about military hardware could tell that by the crap they show in these parades. Not one modern tank or aircraft or helicopter or missile or anything. Good luck.
As usual, the biggest thing guaranteeing our security today is the mistakes of those who would want to attack us, not our government's brilliance. Just like Saddam was arrogant and miscalculated right into the hands of the mullahs back then, Bush handed Iraq and the region on a silver platter to the mullahs after 9/11/2001, and by the time the US realized it it was too late.
How long do we want to count on our enemies' mistakes? This is a dangerous game, and I would warn against any false sense of security. A few hundred thousand men with rifles will not stop 100 Israeli F-16's and F-15's with bunker busters or the several hundred Tomahawks around the region who have coordinates in Iran programmed into them and ready to go since years now. Not to mention the inferno that would follow.
This is our country we are talking about. The ones who will pay the highest price are the innocent. Think carefully before believing that this military can defend us against the conflict that our government is inviting.

The hiss strategy
by Alborzi (not verified) on Fri Apr 24, 2009 07:10 AM PDTIndeed Iran is not able to withstand an assault by USA or Israel. But Iran uses an old approach. The best I can liken it, is to our cat in Iran, one spring she delivered 4 kittens. These kittens when you tried to pick them up, would turn them selves into a ball and hiss at you and finally scare you by pretending to attack you. It was a scary show. Essentially Iran uses hezbullah, Hammas and other forces to cause enough FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Despair), to make a casual attack really unpleasant. Invasion of Iraq compared to Iran , would be like a walk in the park. And in the long run, Iran is pursuing a policy similar to India (in 1960s), it will eventually be better. In the meantime, these are the guys who stood up to the world when Iraq attacked Iran and they are the reason G. W Bush with his 3 aircraft carriers stayed away. God be with them.

Saddam also had a lot of parades of this sort! They know very well that they don't stand a chance against the MIGHTY US of A, if they don't know that, then they are quite ignorant which I am afraid they really are!!
They will be vaporized in a matter of minutes if not seconds! who are they fooling?

by gol-dust on Thu Apr 23, 2009 09:51 PM PDTIn a nut shell, these are only a sample, a small fraction. the main forces are stationed where they are. That's one of the reasons the largest parades are in tehran, where most of the forces are non combat forces for the time being. And that is one of the reasons you hardly see any parades on border town.
also, normally the parades are done on the weekends were most of the personeel are supposed to be with their families. The forces in sensetive areas are not touched. Unless there is a high alert, which is a different story.

Army of Islam
by ain't gonna be fooled (not verified) on Thu Apr 23, 2009 07:24 PM PDTAs all the Islamic and Shiia names, slogans and banners of the divisions and academies of this army show, this is essentially an army created to protect a Shiia regime. Those Iranians who are not this particular type of Shiia or are not Moslems at all, please don't get excited. This army is meant to defend the regime, not your homeland. And this DOES NOT mean that individual members of the army are not patriots. This same regime did not allow the Iranian army to kick out Saddam quickly because it did not serve their goal of consolidating their power back then. Members of this same army whose hearts beat for Iran and not for the regime are identified and liquidated promptly.
Cook out...
by A Hassan Danesh, Sociologist (not verified) on Thu Apr 23, 2009 07:12 PM PDT...perhaps a better option beside parade would be an all out eating and drinking in cook out in parks and in recreational facilities where everybody could enjy the smell of grilled kabab or chicken as it rises into the heaven ...

Long Live Iran! Merci 4 defending Iran against all enemies!
by gol-dust on Thu Apr 23, 2009 06:21 PM PDTI am happy to see all these tapes knowing that we can defend our motherland against all those enemies such Israel etc.! Our soldiers look tall, strong, handsome and brave! Did you notice how high they lift their lengs? Reminds me of the days when I was one of those who served in Shah's army! New generation.
This is much better than what we had during the Shah! I can say that since my childhood I participated (hiding in the RIYO during the Rejeh) along my army dad. No wonder Israel is trying to scare us off! We don't need A bomb! This is good enough for defensive purposes!
ZENDEH BAAD IRAN ZAMIN! CHO IRAN NABAASHAD TANEH MAN MABAAD! To the days that we no longer call it IRI! Peace!

THE PRICE IS RIGHT??
by Javodd (not verified) on Thu Apr 23, 2009 01:53 PM PDTAhmadinejad is giving away free potatoes in the contry slumdogs to buy votes from the oppressed at the same time that he is running such luxurious show case show down with the treasury money. The regime and its major military toys provider, North Korea, are often doing these shows to scare their own people of rising up against the system. These parades belong to word ward I & II era and no powerful countries in the world show their military strength on their streets, on the air, or in the ocean no more. It is really a shame that the IRI never show our own people any film/picture of the US monstrous navy ships in the Persian gulf and instead spends billions of $$$ to buy or to build military equipment that will be no match for Israeli/US air/navy attacks if that ever to happen. Hiding the US and Israel military strength from people might bring IRI quickly to its knees as it happened to Egypt/Syria in their 6 days war of 1967 with Israel. History is a high tech recycling system by itself.
