Who cares!
by Anonymous on Tue Apr 07, 2009 03:53 PM PDTI wished the national symbol of mondern Iran in 21st century was tolerance for all Iranians and not only for the Shites. Compassioan and equality for all Iranian residents and not only who side with the oppressive regime. The fourth tallest tower in the 21st century would not impress those who care about human beings and their rights and liberty.

SHAHYAD
by Irani patriot (not verified) on Tue Apr 07, 2009 03:01 PM PDTThe building Alborz is referring to was originally called SHAHYAD or better known as Shahyad Aryamehr, after the last Shah who commisioned the construction of this beautiful monument.
To call it Azadi memorial is twoing the Islamic regime's line and a direct insult to the victims of the Islamic regime who not only did not gain any Azadi (freedom) after the fall of the Shah but also lost their lives in the hands of the very regime they put in place of the Shah's. The only Azadi the fall of the Shah brought about was the Azadi of the Akhund to rob, kill, rape and sell Iran like no time before.
its even nicer in person
by Alborzi (not verified) on Tue Apr 07, 2009 02:53 PM PDTWhen I was in Iran, it was not fully finished, but it looked very impressive. About comparison to Azadi square, I do not think many people do it, it more like "Gooz be Shaghigheh che Rabti dare", the comparison is like comparing a 747 to a Brookly Bridge, its not a comparison. The milad tower is a symbol of Iranian know how and their independence. Even the most ardent anti-IRI
friends admired it though they kept bringing up that it was late.
alborz, That's I believe is given
by Abarmard on Tue Apr 07, 2009 01:02 PM PDTThey are different symbols. When you make a mega design as Milad tower, your choices are limited in design, going upward.
Azadi tower is a class of its own and it will always be the sign for Tehran.
Sorry, but the Milad Tower will not be able to compete with....
by alborz on Tue Apr 07, 2009 12:57 PM PDT...the Azadi Monument as a symbol of Iran.
While it is an engineering and architectural achievement and one that Iranians can be proud of, it is indistinguishable from the many sky needles built around the world.
Let's hope that the Azadi Monument gets the attention it deserves and receives the much needed repairs. It is in grave danger now.

Iranian proof of know how
by Abarmard on Tue Apr 07, 2009 11:31 AM PDTNot only from architectural point of view, but being able to handle a giant projects such as this would boost Iranian credit in the world to take on other such projects. This translates to more "generation" of wealth for the country.
In reality, there seems to be nothing impossible for the Iranians in the field of technology to accomplish.
