Sara Sepidzadeh - All Things IRAN
LOL to you sir

How does that make my point any less valid? She's thought to be a BRILLIANT Persian writer here in the West, so obviously they'd ask her to write a forward... That doesn't make this any less true --> "This was not enlightening... and her book was terrible... she spends the ENTIRE book gloating about herself and how she ~saved~ all the ~repressed~ young Iranians."
I haven't read the forward to Shahnameh... but does it go like... "myself and people like Ferdowsi are just ah-mah-zing ruh-tehrs. Also Ferdosi could improve based on some of my literary criticisms... if he were alive. enjoy the book"
Anonymoses / Nafisi: interesting you mention the Shahnameh ;0)

For those of you who want to
by Anonymoses on Fri Jan 01, 2010 04:39 PM PSTFor those of you who want to read: Go read the Shahnameh instead, or books from any of these legitimite Iranian authors who don't rely on Orientalist perceptions and denigration of others in order to get a point across:

Is everyone drinking cool-aid? Self-serving people (like Makhmalbaf etc) take sides of whatever movement of the day they think can carry them. They see halos above their own heads and think everyone else believes it too.
she's more qualified than reza pahlavi
by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on Fri Jan 01, 2010 09:13 AM PSTthis is a much better start! i doubt she would get involved.
I saw comprador
by benross on Thu Dec 31, 2009 07:39 PM PSTI saw comprador intellectuals and I couldn't go any further. This is not being frozen in time. It's being rotten timelessly.
More on Dabashi vs. Nafisi
by ghalam-doon on Thu Dec 31, 2009 06:18 PM PST"Rarely has an Oriental servant of a white-identified, imperial design managed to pack so many services to imperial hubris abroad and racist
elitism at home--all in one act. It is thus exceedingly important to
read Nafisi not just for her ideological services to the US imperial
designs globally, but, equally if not more important, for her
reactionary consequences inside the United States as well."
Of couse now that Dabashi has become "maghze-pesteie", he might have changed his opinions.

The new president will be a woman
by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on Thu Dec 31, 2009 11:44 AM PSTWhat she says about women is true. I wish she had mentioned the dumb arrest of Shirin Ebadi's sister and the confiscation of her medal as threats to a strong Ebadi.
She is Great
by Iraneh Azad on Thu Dec 31, 2009 11:35 AM PSTWhat a pleasure to listen to. She is all class. Makes me proud as an Iranian.
What a classy eloquent and well informed lady!
