KITZBUEHEL, Austria (AFP) – Hossein Kalhor (www.hossein-kalhor.com) swept unconvincingly into Alpine skiing history on Sunday when he became the first Iranian to take part in the World Cup. The 25-year-old displayed an uncertain style in the slalom and finished second-last in the first run, more than 16 seconds behind the fastest man and, as a result, missed out on the second round. But Kalhor was happy with his debut, pointing out that he hadn't missed a gate and had at least reached the end of the course unlike superstars Benjamin Raich of Austria and America's Bode Miller who both failed to finish >>> (Photo: Samuel Kubani)

Why negative comments?!
by Skier (not verified) on Thu Jan 29, 2009 05:12 PM PSTThose who have negative comments below; WTF is wrong with you guys?! Is he using your money? How many of you even ski? WTF do you know about the course he skied? We have one person who has qualified to be in FIS in World Cup and this is all you can say?
Vaghean keh! Rest assured he is a better skier than hundreds of thousands more who couldn't qualify for World Cup.
Way to go Hossein Kalhor! You can only get better and I wish you all the luck and success in the world. May you stand on the podium one of these days and make us proud and prove what an idiot these guys are! These guys are idiots anyway, so no need to prove it again!
Woww
by choghok on Thu Jan 29, 2009 12:52 AM PSTFirst of all kudos to the Kalhor, wish the best for the future.
Second the reason the superstars did not make it all the way down was that they were trying to be as fast as possible, and the difference between success and disaster is very thin.

by Ajam (not verified) on Wed Jan 28, 2009 05:37 PM PSTWe Iranians better stick with Downhill or at best, Super G where we stand a chance. Our style lacks the discipline for slalom!

Kalhors have always made history
by mahmoudg on Wed Jan 28, 2009 03:06 PM PSTI remember when I was 17 and another Kalhor (Ghorban Ali), Hussien's father or uncle perhaps, also made history for Iran, when he made it all the way down in Giant Slalom and Downhill events during the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Olympics. He also finished second to last, in one of the events at least. Good old days when we used to Ski with Kalhors and all the local boys on the slopes of Dizin. Alas...
