BAGHDAD (Los Angeles Times) -- The Iraqi government refuted suggestions today that Iranian pressure had prompted a raid on a camp belonging to an Iranian opposition group, saying that Iraqi security forces are merely seeking to extend sovereignty over all Iraqi territory. The Mujahedin Khalq (MEK), a militant group that has long opposed the Iranian government, claimed that seven of its members died in clashes with Iraqi security forces after Iraqi police attempted to enter its camp in Diyala province Tuesday to open a police station."The Iraqi government is determined to establish its sovereignty over all positions and facilities that were under the control of foreign forces," government spokesman Ali Dabbagh told reporters. "The government wants to open an Iraqi police station inside the camp to impose the rule of law and establish the rule of the state."Dabbagh said Iranian citizens in the camp would not be forced to return to Iran, where they fear they would be punished. Camp Ashraf, as the facility is known, illustrates the complex relationship that has emerged between Iraq and its two biggest allies, the U.S. and Iran. The camp dates back to the 1980s, when Saddam Hussein invited the MEK to establish a presence in Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war. >>>

The Privilege Isn’t Ours!
by LalehGillani on Wed Jul 29, 2009 01:20 PM PDTI am appalled at the display of violence towards the residents of Camp Ashraf.
There are 3500 Iranians together with their families living in this camp. Regardless of their political affiliation, they are my countrymen and women, and I hold both the U.S. and the Iraqi governments responsible for the fate of these people. Whether they are wounded, tortured, or killed in Iraq or in Iran, ultimately the blood of these people will be on the hands of U.S. and Iraqi officials.
It is time for us, Iranians, to stand up for our collective rights to be free in and outside Iran. Picking and choosing who may be incarcerated or not is a privilege reserved for a court of law only in a democratically elected government.
That privilege is not yours or mine…
اپوزیسیون
Jahanshah RashidianWed Jul 29, 2009 01:36 PM PDT
Now the big question...
by Khar on Wed Jul 29, 2009 12:56 PM PDTWHERE IN THE HELL IS MASOUD RAJAVI???
I'm with Abarmard on this, the MKO rank and file members should be pardoned! Most of them were held against their will by MKO and Rajavis and they want to return to Iran, based on what I've seen and read on the news. I hope that they won't be harmed by Hokoomat Eslaami upon their return. As for Rajavis, I think they should be prosecuted by an international court for crimes that they have commited just the same as IRI leader.

by ex programmer craig on Wed Jul 29, 2009 12:12 PM PDTYour conspiracy theories are years out of date, and you don't even seem to know it. You don't get out much, eh?
That's OK. If we have to deal with IRI propagandists, it's good for them to be particularly stupid ones.
Abarmard, I agree that
by Jaleho on Wed Jul 29, 2009 10:28 AM PDTThe younger ones which were just trapped in the camp should be given all the opportunity to be repatriated, that is the only human behavior. But, many Iranians, in particular the ones who participated in the war and their families, those who were victims of chemical weapons used on them by the help of MKOs ...don't you think they are entitled to have the top echelon of MKO go through a trial at least before any guarantee are given to their former supporters?
Why should Iran take conditions from US
by Jaleho on Wed Jul 29, 2009 10:21 AM PDTUN, or Iraq regarding what it will do with MKOs?!
Did US, UN or Iraq under Saddam, that is the entities who helped and promoted MKO taitors during Saddam's war against Iran, give any promises to Iran that now they want promises from Iran for taking these traitors back?!! I'd say, if they want condictions, US, UN and Iraq can have them, Iran does not owe any guarantee to anyone, those who cared for MKO before and seem to care for them now, can have'em fro free and condition-free!!
The members who want to return themselves to Iran with no conditions, and are willing to risk the outcome of an Iranian court as to the degree of their activity and Iran's decision on what should be done with them after a review, should be allowed to come back. The ones who have direct Iranian blood on their hands, or are affraid of how they'd be treated in Iran, should find somewhere else they feel safe, preferably with their former masters, US, Europe or accept the new rule in Iraq.
We should forgive them
by Abarmard on Wed Jul 29, 2009 10:20 AM PDTIf we want a better Iran we need to learn to put our mind and humanity before our emotions.
Let's suppose that many of these people's parents or even them fought for Saddam, well that was a long time ago. Either many of these people were kids or they were not even a part of it.
We should respect all political ideologies and allow them to participate in the future of their country. No one should have the ultimate say.
Forgive them, allow them to explain themselves. I believe that many of them are innocent and only very a few are criminal.
Send them back to Iran
by American Dream on Wed Jul 29, 2009 10:01 AM PDTThese animal MOKs supported the taking hostages at the American Embassy for 444 days after the Iranian Revolution. Let them suffer. They should be turned over to the Iranian Authorities in Tehran as soon as possible. And send them over with their "Lion and Sun" flags. It is my firm belief that they have not been beaten enough.

There are plenty of Iranian laato-loot to take care of their business … and there are actually more Iranian’s in Lebanon! Rajavi will Sacrifice them, again...
by Susan B. on Wed Jul 29, 2009 04:35 AM PDTI am not a supporter of MKO. but according to Seymour Hersh, and Dr. Abbas Milani's new book, although U.S. officially listed them as a "terrorist group", U.S. did support them under the table. Apparently, U.S. did it to Masoud as what they did to Saddam!
It's so sad that fellow Iranians are suffering and being beaten by
Arabs, again!, within a few weeks after Iranian students were beaten by
Lebanese Hezbollah in Iran's post election protests.
I think Mozdoor Masoud Rajavi will sacrifice them for his short term
goals; he's used to this kind of crimes against his own people. I hope
MKO supporters wake up and smell the crimes of Maryam and Masoud. BTW,
they might still have MKO prisoners in their own camp, Ashraf.
Good
by alirezag on Wed Jul 29, 2009 03:58 AM PDTMKO deserved this after the violence they caused during the election protests.
The European countries who like the MKO should back up their support by giving them amnesty, jobs and homes. lol.
conspiracy theory.
by Dariush on Tue Jul 28, 2009 10:59 PM PDTThis couldn't have happened without a green light from United State. This is what you get sooner or later for serving the enemy. I said months ago that MEK will be used until there is no more use for them and then they will be taking care of. But this seems too soon to me. They can still be used. It would be a mistake for them to return to Iran at this time. They should be given asylum and go on with their lives in a separate way in some other countries. This would be safer for both them and Iran.
Oh, I see, now I know why this happened. This just might be a set up to get them into Iran for future plans. "The foot soldiers" Otherwise, how could Iraqis make such a move without United States approval and why would MEK want to go to Iran under these circumstances.
You got to watch out for these devils. Kind of like the peace agreement they wanted to signed with the Palestinians. One of the conditions was that Palestinians must be disarmed. I wondered, What do they mean by disarmed. Palestinians don't have any weapons. Then I realized, they are talking about cutting their arms off. So you see. You got to make sure every word is translated clearly. otherwise, you just might sign your death wish.
Yes, I know. The conspiracy theory still exists in my mind.
It made me sad, don’t know why?

Admirable Iranian Heros
by Ahura on Tue Jul 28, 2009 10:11 PM PDTI salute Mojahedeen who have sacrificed themselves for freedom of our beloved homeland Iran from the tyrannical mullahs and their sepahi and basiji criminals. The attack of Ashraf Camp by Iraqi forces in support of IRI plans to eliminate Mojahedeen Khalgh is a cowardly and deplorable act. Although I do not share the religious convictions of the Mojahedeen, I see no other opposition group to IRI that deserve the gratitude and admiration of freedom seeking Iranians.
Together we will dump the IRI theocracy in the dustbin of history and establish a secular republic in Iran.

Six years have gone since USA attacked Iraq and if Masoud and or Marayam only had to take care of one task, it should have been negotiating their way out of this mess. Didn't they know a pro IRI is in town now
Here is leadership at its worst. Shame on Rajavi.

so many killed in the hands of their own people
by Lili on Tue Jul 28, 2009 09:41 PM PDTMKO is a cult and I hate their leaders. Keep in mind that so many them have been executed and tortured to death by the newly established IRI. I was an eye witnessed to some of those horrible atrocities--like killing of a 60 year old grandmother, a 6 year old boy, and a young pregnant woman.
This video is nothing compared to what's happened to 1000s of MKO followers in the years following the Islamic Revolution. I find MKO leaders the conspirators and the real killers. MKO is a cult. They systematically brain washed young Iranians and they used them to flee Iran and live in comfort abroad.
Even so, I find it hard to have sympathy for the Camp Ashraf residence. They came to that place to attack Iran. They are traitors. They deserve worst.
Being human being is a virtue
by Freedom5 on Tue Jul 28, 2009 08:42 PM PDTI am not a supporter of Mojahedeen Khalgh in fact I am a supporter of monarchism but it does make me to approve and forthermore approbate the killing of Iranian anywhere regardless of their belief and their religion. This could have been done through negotiation and not by force. The killing of innocent people especially Iranian is condemnable. Any Real Iranian should not be lighthearted by this savagery. Revenge is not the answer. Some of this people were even too young to participate in Iran-iraq war. Retribution is not the answer. Long live IRAN.
