by Nifky (not verified) on Tue Jun 30, 2009 11:33 AM PDTWake up and smell the coffee- IRI is here to stay. To all you monarchist, go cry a river. To all the MKOs you can keep dreaming. The reality is IRI is here for good. I do hope to see Ayatollah Rafsanjani back in politics again soon. I also wished that I could see more reformists like Montazeri in power...
farrad02 Jaan Thank You
by Darius Kadivar on Tue Jun 30, 2009 06:32 AM PDTWell that was precisely why I titled my thread: Clueless Robert ... FINALLY GET'S IT !!! ... ;0))
Acknowleging one's mistakes is probably the hardest thing to do for anyone.
I am glad that Baer had that intellectual courage. And what he said in regard to these events and that "it is indeed a rebellion which will have far reaching consenquences" is absolutely correct and in line with what I also think and I believe most serious observers would agree upon.
Lets Just hope that it will be for the best of Iranians and not as Baer pessimistically envisions the begining of a far more brutal dictatorship ...
take care,
DK
DK - I respect your opinion
by farrad02 on Tue Jun 30, 2009 06:16 AM PDTI agree with a lot of what you say.
It is very obvious that everyone of these so called experts come forward wth a particular interest or view being pushed and represented. People like Trita Parsi (not so much Reza Aslan I think) are visibly representing an official viewpoint. From where and who is not my job to say or accuse! :) However, strictly assessing, what Robert B. says about the events of the past 3 weeks in Iran is absolutely correct. This is a rift within the Iranian theocracy and it may very well have evolved into a revolution that will go beyond the decision of which faction will lead IRI. The youth of Iran may very well seek the downfall of the whole corrupted regime!
As always I enjoy your contributions to this community. Keep it up.
Thanks,
Farhad Rad.
farrad02 Here is The Explanation to my Sarcasm
by Darius Kadivar on Tue Jun 30, 2009 05:08 AM PDTThis is not about not respecting one's Freedom of Speech but about Being Opiniated enough to denounce un-professional and biaised outlooks on a given subject.
Robert Baer Was accusing Kurdish Rebels of being "Terrorists" Killing Iranians in a documentary which he endorsed and in which the only evidence of such "terrorist activities" was that these rebels smuggled "Porn Tapes" and "Alcohol" into Iran.
//iranian.com/main/singlepage/2008/secret-war-iran
Mr. Baer Self Confidently accused these poor devils many of whom helped many Iranians throughout these 30 years to gain Freedom by helping them to cross the dangerous frontier with Turkey or Iraq:
//iranian.com/main/blog/darius-kadivar/ahmad-batebis-journey-freedom-channel-4
My dissappointment with Baer does not date from today. As you can see my critics ( prior to the recent events in Iran) regarding his outlook on the region which I find were only an endorsement of the Iranian Theocracies foreign policy :
//iranian.com/main/2009/jan/robert-baer-iran
and at odds with the interests of the Iranian People at large:
//iranian.com/main/blog/darius-kadivar/ahmad-batebis-journey-freedom-channel-4
This should be a lesson to many who think that it is enough to hear a so called "expert" on Iran spread generalities on a country without even understanding it's people and their challenges or offering sustainable evidence of what they present as FACTS !
Hope this explains better my sarcastic comments on an author whose views I am knowledgable enough of since I even wrote an article praising the screen adaptation of his novel Syriana
SYRIANA BREAKS IRANIAN STEREOTYPES BY DARIUS KADIVAR
But Love should Not Blind a person from seeing through people. In Recent years I have read so many comments by fellow Iranians endorsing Robert Baer's biaised statements on the situation in Iran (which many of these readers knew were not reflecting the views of most Iranians) only because they were infatuated by Mr. Baer's so called "Charisma".
I am too old for being impressed by such people on grounds of so called "Charisma". I read, look and listen to what they say and try to confront their views to what I know about the region and Only then draw my personal conclusions.
Same thing applies to the likes of so called Iran "Experts" like Reza Aslan or Trita Parsi who think that by appearing on Jon Stewart and throwing in a few sophisticated generalizations about Iran and the Muslim world just to show off, their sexy charm and master of the English Language, that they have the monopoly of the Truth or that their views are shared by the majority of Iranians be it in the Diaspora or in Iran.

by 09 (not verified) on Tue Jun 30, 2009 01:50 AM PDTkhosoro sheibani: He has always been clueless and now he is on the record admitting his cluelessness.
Most real experts had predicted this 2 years ago.
Quote: Iran is such an opaque country..
by Amir Khosrow Sheibany (not verified) on Mon Jun 29, 2009 10:24 PM PDTQuote: "I did not predict this"
This is an Iran expert? Everything this guy has said in the past suggests he had no idea such an uprising could have ever happened, and hence he proposed legitimizing the Taazi regime by cutting a deal with them and getting something for the USA.
No body knows where this is going to go he says. Some people know where they want this to go!. What matters in these crucial days is who does what and when.
He says: "We cannot predict what is going on in this country". Wrong. YOU cannot predict what is going on in this country.
This guy is only useful to build bridges with the Taazi regime. He is useless going forward since the 'iranian' street showed its true colours.

Darius, you are out of line! No charcter assassinations please!
by farrad02 on Mon Jun 29, 2009 05:51 PM PDTFirst of all, your tone and sarcasm is quite out of line. Secondly, there is no Marriott in Tehran (not a surprise since you haven't been there for over 30 years; may be longer!) Thirdly, there is no porn in Tehran hotels!
You are obviously mad at this man for his book and previous opinions. But his assessment of the current events are quite accurate! Please be fair and measured. Don't let your emotions lead you to assassinate someone's character like this! What happened to the champion of free speech that we knew in Mr. Kadivar all this time? What's this talk about porn and vodka in the hotel room? Can we not be civil my friend?!! When will the civility start then? If not y educated Iranians living in Paris (of all places)?!
What happened in iran in the past 2 weeks, indeed started as an internal power struggle within the IRI regime but may very well have given birth to what you're wishfully wanting to see!
Either way, it's no excuse for the sarcastic character assassination you conduct here against a very measured and reasonable assessment by Robert! (right or wrong)
Clueless Robert ... FINALLY GET'S IT !!! ... ;0))
by Darius Kadivar on Mon Jun 29, 2009 03:57 PM PDTCongratulations Robert You Finally Got it Right !
Had you spoken to the man on the Street and spent less time in your room at the Tehran Marriots watching Porn Films on Satellite TV and drinking less Vodka you would have reached this conclusion earlier.
One Correction By the Way, the Exiled Opposition actually Predicted the Upheaval Long ago. Only You So Called Experts didn't Trust them :
Reza Pahlavi say's the country on the brink of explosion on French TV 11th Feb 2009 in French talk Show Ce Soir ou Jamais. But his views are arrogantly dismissed as "Royalist Propaganda" by 3 TOP FRENCH EXPERTS on Iran:
