ESPN: Saudi Arabia's hopes of qualifying for a fifth straight World Cup received a major boost when Osama Al Harbi scored three minutes from time to give his side a come-from-behind win over Iran at Tehran's Azadi Stadium. Masoud Shojaei had given the Iranians the lead in the 57th minute only for goals from Naif Hazizi and Al Harbi to earn the Saudis a win that moves them into third place in Group B of Asia's qualifying tournament for next year's World Cup finals. The top two teams qualify automatically for South Africa with the third place team progressing to a play-off with their counterparts in Group A. The victorious team from that clash then meets the winner of the Oceania qualifiers for a place in the finals>>>

by Anonymous-irany (not verified) on Sun Mar 29, 2009 10:56 AM PDTWhat is good about Daie? If Ali Daie is not to blame for the weak and poor performance of his players then who should be responsible for? His job was to train the players, choose the right players and...... Did we need a religious trainer who admitted belonging to the God lobby and went to jam kran to drop a letter for Mahdi to support his team. He should have resign before starting the competitions for World Cup. He was a failure from the beginning and everyone knows why he was assigned to coach the team, the Mafia.
forgot one
by Anonymouslie (not verified) on Sun Mar 29, 2009 10:25 AM PDTI think on the top of your list should be either:
1. Learn how to play football.
or:
1. Learn how to play football as a team not individuals...this ins't wrestling.
I Agree
by iroooni (not verified) on Sun Mar 29, 2009 10:23 AM PDTwith most posts below. It's about incompetence at all levels. However, North Korea with it's not so great system is kicking butt right now. May that says something about our culture as well.
Ali Daee is good
by Homayun on Sun Mar 29, 2009 10:17 AM PDTAs a fan, I wouldn't automatically blame Ali daee for this loss. After all, we don't know how he has instructed the players. And what if Iran had acutally won? Was he then a good coach? THis could have happened to any coach...
I think in every game there is wining and losing..So, this was an unfortunate goalkeeper mistake. The corner kick should have been saved by the keeper..
But Iran can still make it, probably..let's be positive and hope for the best
My Moto: Be Positive, Optimistic and don't fall in routines
Good!

How horrible
by Abarmard on Sun Mar 29, 2009 09:30 AM PDTThe game had effected my mood all day yesterday. I am glad that Ali Daie is gone, it's better for the team. The team is not in a perfect physical shape, their problem as I have noticed been speed and endurance. That's directly related to the couch and exercises he push his players to practice.
Here what Iran needs to do now.
1-get a new couch within the next two weeks
2-Win the two games in the row
3- Tie with S. Korea in the third game.
Iran still statistically has a chance to be number 2 in the bracket. They have the capability to do it too, just the matter of getting the talented players work together as a team.
For now, we need to want South Korea to beat Noth Korea on Wednesday.
On the positive site, this loss can become a good thing if we get a good couch and strive to be the best, which we are after all. Iranian soccer team is a great team, just need to come together.
As a fan, don't give up yet. It doesn't look good but the hope is not dead.
Breaking News

Ali Daie must be fired !
by IranFirst (not verified) on Sun Mar 29, 2009 08:29 AM PDTHe over-stayed his days as a player, and never deserved to be the Heat coach to begin with, let alone all the bad results.
In civilized world everything is based on performance, if a person or a system is not performing it should be kicked out. Ali Daie, Ahmadinejad, Khamenei, IRI and their Islam... should go, they are all parts of the system that has brought defeat, backwardness and misery to Iran and Iranians
Damn
by Ali Amoo (not verified) on Sun Mar 29, 2009 08:02 AM PDTNow to be qualified, we have not only to play good the rest of the games but also pray that others don't perform well!
Incompetence on top
by Iranyvaliazad on Sun Mar 29, 2009 07:33 AM PDTThere is no magic formula … top positions are bestowed not to skilled people but rather to those who are loyal to the cause of the Islamic cult. This is true from the top position, the owner of Iran, the so called leader, to its selected president, ministers, down to coaches and university professors and on and on and on. Failures in economic conditions, society, fight against drugs, sports are simply result of incompetence on top.
Omat team not a melat team
by Anonymous**** (not verified) on Sun Mar 29, 2009 07:28 AM PDTThere is a big difference bet/ Melee team and omat team. In a country that its leader is someone like Ali Kamanee then its coach has to be someone like Ali Daie, a good match haaaa! Daie is very aggressive, a rude and impolite man and in all his interviews he showed his bad manners. The worse thing about him is that all his friends are Mullahs and he is infected by them "baadeh Islam be shekamesh peechedeh".

What ails Iran's football is the same that affect her society
by Worcester Mo (not verified) on Sun Mar 29, 2009 06:03 AM PDTIran's football is shamefully under-achieving. A country with many talented players is coached by an idiot who is coaching them because he is one of the richest men in Iran and connected to the establishment. A country with vast talent has players who do not mesh well, can't defend effectively, can't score goals. Is that too much different from Iranian's society? Talented people who don't get along, with leaders who are clueless...
Failure
by MiNeum71 on Sun Mar 29, 2009 07:14 AM PDT1) Look at the European top professionals, they are completely focused on the own performances. Our players specially the defenders are busy with discussing with the referees, insulting the opponents and showing bad manners.
2) No team in the history of WCs, ECs and CLs has ever won a tournament with a 4-2-2-2. Why? Because it doesn´t work. But Ali Daei is sure, this is the perfect system.
This team neither is an entity nor can fire on all cylinders. Maybe they can make the WC´2010 qualifications, but only because the Asian football is so weak.
