by anonymous fish on Wed Mar 11, 2009 05:00 PM PDTi agree with you. i can't see anything negative coming out of this at all. anything is better than nothing.
i wish i knew which WAS correct... i've never heard any iranian use the term "persian" when it comes to the language. it's always referred to as "farsi". but perhaps gol-dust is the reigning expert on iran? :-)
If you "Really" think about
by K (not verified) on Tue Mar 10, 2009 11:40 PM PDTIf you "Really" think about it this is great news!
---Now stop and think about it... there's a lot more to this than just this group of film industry people deciding to go to Iran.
This group had very good intentions... I should know.
By the way Annette Bening is a wonderful actress and person.
The verdict is in!
by Asdollah (not verified) on Tue Mar 10, 2009 09:30 PM PDTIt's called Farsi.
Persian would be confusing because Afghans speak Persian as well, but we don't understand much of their speech.

Iran is right, and right will win, always.
iranian hospitality
by bj (not verified) on Tue Mar 10, 2009 06:26 PM PDTI think american people must be always welcomed to iran.americans are the most generous and kind people in campare with other nations.Eventhough iranians say "death to america" but when you ask them where you want your kids go to school for higher education, they all say AMRIKA.Lets stop the nonesense and shake hands because we both love each other.
Make cheap movies, more audience($$$$$) &colonize youth brains!
by gol-dust on Tue Mar 10, 2009 06:04 PM PDTThe youths are misguided watching their movies from far, then you add the sex & violence of pop culture through movies. Control people's minds now that they cannot control our land! I wish, this wasn't the case, but isn't hollywood on e of the major reasons that there are so much corruption of minds and behavior in the west? Let's have Hard rocks now!
I would love it if they would give us the tools to make better movies, but that's not going to be the case. why would they care? It is all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
BTW What's up with all these Iranians who insist on saying FARSI instead of Persian when they speak English? They sound so illiterate! You don't say I SPEAK INGILISI! who would know that!
I don't know about you guys..
by Anonymous Observer on Tue Mar 10, 2009 03:05 PM PDTbut I think that Annette Benings (did I spell it right?) looks sexy in lachak....watch out Warren Beaty, she may be someone's sigheh before she leaves Iran!!!!
blessed are the peace makers (Sorry Zion) !
by Anonymous8 (not verified) on Tue Mar 10, 2009 02:27 PM PDTI know it hurts. get used to it.
The point is that
by Toofantheoncesogreat (not verified) on Tue Mar 10, 2009 01:38 PM PDTthe more exchanges like this you get with the top producers and film makers in the US with Iranians, the less of a chance you will have to get more movies like 300 being made. Iranian films can also enter US film contests easier.

by Anonymous.... (not verified) on Tue Mar 10, 2009 01:20 PM PDTDid you see Annette Benning in her hejab?
Wait until the iranian designers incorporate a western angel in their work.... then look out! The Mullah's may end up rejuvenating our retail industry.
Now I wonder how J-Lo looks in Hejab!
Fantastic
by Daryush on Tue Mar 10, 2009 12:56 PM PDTLove it when the foreigners come and respect my rules. It's Iran.

I think you are the best for discussing movies and theatre here.
So my suggestion is to have your own blog here and only discuss the movies. avoiding other topics will keep your standing high.

Great Report !
by Darius Kadivar on Tue Mar 10, 2009 11:44 AM PDTEskandiari is a Great Make Up artists who worked on many of Behrouz Vossoughi's films. This is a very interesting Report which shows the Great Potential for Films in IRan just like Morroco or Tunisia where films like Star Wars or Gladiator were Shot. In addition it can encourage co productions as in the past with films like Caravans (1978) or Desert of the Tartares (1976).
Cinema is Not Always Just ART it is first and foremost an industry. Iranian filmmakers have understood this for a long time but not the government. No wonder Makhmalbaf decided to leave IRan for France since he feels he cannot make the films he wants to and that Niki Karimi who was discouraged by having her films censored decided to co produce with FRench companies and have her films released even in small theaters in France as was the case for her film One Night ( censored in IRan) rather than waste her time convincing the Minister of Culture who has no will to defend Iranian filmmakers or facilitate their work. A shortcoming that Iran shares with all societies where censorship only reflects the ignorant and intolerant nature of their government and serve as the common denominator of all dictatorships who fear imaginative citizens particularly freeminded independant artists.
Lets Hope for more exchanges like these in the future.

Meaningless
by Kaveh Nouraee on Tue Mar 10, 2009 11:03 AM PDTI think it's safe to say that this is primarily a PR maneuver for the Motion Picture Academy. As far as the Iranian film industry having to be careful, that may be a bit over-cautious. Maybe the Academy is trying to figure out how to make a movie for under $150 million and without computer-aided everything.
Bunch of hollywood idiots
by MRX1 on Tue Mar 10, 2009 10:47 AM PDTnothing is more korney to see hollywood actress's wearing roosari and manto when so many Iranian women suffered so much from this regime for not want to wear this stuff. These hollywood idiots are profundley stupid.................
What's in it for Iran?
by Abarmard on Tue Mar 10, 2009 09:41 AM PDTI liked to see more about what they are thinking as far as long term? What's in it for Iran? Iranian film industry should be very careful from these kind of meetings.
