Sorry about the shaky camera

by ramins on

Sorry about the shaky camera work.  I was trying to film, take pictures and cheer on the parade all at the same time!!  Last year I did longer shots of each float but the size of the final video was huge and the quality suffered, plus there was much of it that I had to not include to keep it under youtube's 10 minute limit.  Here is last year's footage for anyone who is interested:

I will also blame much of the quality of the footage of last and this year's parade on Windows Movie Maker's low quality output and lack of updates...Clicking on the HQ button on the youtube frame should somewhat improve it.

NYC Persian Parade Day

by Davood N. Rahni (not verified) on

The NYC Persian Parade generated its much anticipated ambiance of euphoria, pride, solidarity, camaraderie and above all UNITY. It has in essence become a come home away from home, a 2-hrs Mecca of our spirited soul for pilgrimage, a time and place where Ravan freely exits and reenters the body with much exhilaration. Again, and stated so eloquently below, the community remain indebted to the great many philanthropists, altruists and volunteers who envisaged the concept and implemented their vision year after year. THANK YOU!

Given the suggestion of seeking constructive feedback, and having extensively conferred with a number of civic activists in our community, I humbly submit the followings in the name of enjoying even a much more exciting parade extravaganza next year:

1. Those actively partaking in the parade, especially the ones atop the floats should wear some meaningful colorful clothes and preferably traditional or national costumes colors. There were many on floats with heavy black or dark coats and raincoats that dimmed and gloomed the visual effects.
2. Those along the parade routes should in advance be highly encouraged to wear colorful, and preferably national costumes or colors too. They could even bring to present certain national symbols, from a region or era.
3. The absence of local, regional or national media was quite felt. Serious efforts must be made in advance of the event to ensure they are well present to cover the event for the broader public and mainstream Americans.
4. The lack of the number of mainstream Americans along the parade route was self evident. Although a number of tourist or passerby were serendipitously watching, I reckon none had actually planned to be there for the event. Again through media press releases, calendars of events in papers and media, and websites, and the words of mouth and encouragement by every proud Iranian-American, we should each draw and drag a number of our American friends to the event. Simply put, the time for taking and presenting the parade to the boarder American community has arrived.
5. Perhaps, every ethnicity, region in Iran, or like the Guilanis of Toronto form a region in north America should be encouraged to self finance a performance or a procession and attend the Parade with much pride. This decentralization process will take the parade to where it belongs, people’s heart and pockets too!

6. Everyone coming to the Parade next year should come with at least ten one and two brand new dollar bills to pass out to small children along the routes. This is particularly important for those in the parade. Of course, one would hope that each person $100 of such brand new small denominaitons to pass out to small chidlren as this tradition would hten be passed on so powerfully... (you can get them and stash them away at Christmas as that's when the bank have plenty of bran new monies.

With much appreciation and looking forward to next year’s Persian Parade, see you at Sizdah Bedar on April 5 at Bear Mountain State Park in the interim.

Great Many Happy Returns of Norouz!

Great job by organizers...

This parade is improving year over year, keep up the good job.

To the person who asked what does "shir o khorshid" have anything to do with the "shah", please educate yourself upon Iranian flag history.

To Ramins, thanks for the posting, however, the clip was so shaky that I feel dizzy!!! and the editing really could have been much better.

Question for hamvatanaan

Does "shiro-khorshid" flag represent the monarchists to you,

OR,

do you see it as symbol of a secular and non-religious Iran?

My hats off to the organizers of Persian Parade

by farrad02 on

To the extent that this annual effort institutionalizes Nowrooz as an ethnic celebration for some Americans and plants it in the minds of New Yorkers as an expected Spring ritual annually (something like the St. Patrick's parade in Chicago and others around the nation), then it's a wonderful thing and we should all be proud of it! Think of these things for their influence and function in long range!

However, I do wish we could all be displaying and carrying one flag for our country and be proud of it!  I wish...

I Am So Proud

by Anonymous411 (not verified) on

That as an ethnic group of people that has not been here that long (like the Irish and Italians who came in the 1900s), we have managed to fit ourselves into the fabric of America and other countries, while still keeping our native culture, traditions, and food. We have also introduced these three things to the people within the USA and the world. Great job to everyone who participated, and hopefully I can get to see it live next year. Persian Gulf 4Ever! Zende Bad Iran va Iraniyoone Jahan!
