As Mahmoud Ahmadinejad entered the Caracas airport in Venezuela, they received him by playing the Pahlavi-era "Sorood e Shahanshahi" instead of the Islamic Republic's anthem!

He didn't deserve to be welcomed by a king's anthem.

Shifteh AnsariWed Nov 25, 2009 10:27 PM PST

It happened before, too
by Shifteh Ansari on Wed Nov 25, 2009 09:09 PM PSTIt's not the first time this has happened. Most countries don't change their national anthems that frequently, so this has happened to Iranian delegations on other occasions in the past.
The really funny thing about this is that it was Mahmoud's fourth trip to see Hugo, and the two being so close and so "revolutionary" together, the irony in the mistake is particularly intensified.
It's clear IRIB has tried to reduce the sound when the old anthem comes on but was unable to salvage the dignity.
Even if IRIB personnel were too young to know the difference, Mahmoud and his wife are old enough to know it! I am laughing my head off thinking what must have been going through his head! Any humiliation serves this jerk right.

WTF?!
by aaminian on Wed Nov 25, 2009 04:07 PM PSTNow, does any one still wonder why countries like Iran/Venezuala are called Third World? Humors and jokes aside (I almost p'd in my pants!), this is SAD! In today's high-tech world, couldn't someone at the Relaciones Exteriores office find out what Iran's CURRENT national anthem is?!
Makes for a great coctail discussion though...
The Republic Generation
by Peykan on Wed Nov 25, 2009 03:46 PM PSTThere is a possibility that all IRIB staff that edited this tape were under 30 and have never heard this anthem in their lives, hence didn't recognize it.
