2,609 years after the reign of Cyrus the Great, Ayat'Allah Seyed Ali Khamenei is the leader of Iranians.  Interesting turn of events.  Cyrus and Khamenei look alike.  Maybe they are related.

I admire your sense of optimism; however, as you heard in the clip, it seems that they (Khamenei et al.) are sincerely (or pretentiously) convinced that they have got all the answers they need to resolve human dilemmas and challenges 1400 years ago and there is no need for further investigation. This type of self-righteousness and black and white vision of the world, issued by a government, is extremely dangerous. Meanwhile, generations of Iranian academics will face the consequences of their trials and errors.   

This is a concern for the system because the modern human sciences developed in the west after the Renaissance and the industrial revolution dispute or discredit any divine interference in their perspective. Naturally, a religious dictatorship is not inclined to promote its own anti-thesis in its academia.

Two points comes to mind.

First whether they will stop teaching the social philosophy and history all together?  They will not be able to do so.

Second to challenge those thoughts, they need to create new thoughts, or thesis, which then there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It allows them to have a better understandings about the Western works in order to develop an "Iranian"/Islamic version of it. 

The only way to challenge a theory or thought is to present another one. That would be again challenged and the communication of thoughts will increase.

Suppose that they make Mullahs to come up with crazy thoughts and demands in regard to social sciences, beside making an ass of themselves, they will not accomplish anything else. Therefore, not only I promote Khamenei's thoughts, but add to it: Bring it on.

What it all means is that talk is cheap. It's not practical and I won't lose sleep over it. If Iranian philosophers and thinkers get excited about this method, then we have not lost anything and might even gain something.

recall the cultural revolution during the revolution, in the long run they all went back to what it always was. the system can't stop the modernity of the society by bringing backward laws. The only accomplishment would be the opposite, the Iranian modernity would come up with more answers to develop a better and more open society. We can conclude that his logic will only hurt his system and helps the people in the long run.
