HISTORY
by PERS66 on Sun Sep 27, 2009 09:12 AM PDTThe story of Leonidas & Xerxes at Thermopylae is a well known historical fact, no doubt about it!The motion picture 300 is pure Hollywood propaganda crap, presenting Xerxes and the Persian Empire as a barbaric inferior culture for the viewer that does not read or investigate truth from crap.Perhaps an alternative historical view and narrative would be Mary Renault’s historical novel the “The Persian Boy” it is the story of Alexander’s invasion with noon beigest and fare view of both the Greek and Persian cultures during those times……
History
by American Dream on Sun Sep 27, 2009 08:42 AM PDTLeonidas I (died 480 bc), king of Sparta (490?-480 bc). Leonidas is best known for his heroic defense of the narrow pass of Thermopylae against the Persian army of Xerxes I in 480 bc. With an outnumbered force of 6000 to 7000 men, of which 300 were Spartans, Leonidas withstood the Persian invasion for two days. A Thessalian traitor named Ephialtes, however, showed Xerxes a mountain path around the cliffs, and when Leonidas learned that he was about to be attacked from the rear, he sent most of his troops to safety. He remained with the Spartans and about 1100 other soldiers, mainly Thebans and Thespians, who refused to leave. Leonidas and his men perished bravely. The famous Battle of Thermopylae was recorded by the Greek historian Herodotus in his History.
This is the truth. "Sukut Javabeh Vagheyat ast".
HollyUSA : I'm lost! Why is this so fascinating?
by PERS66 on Sun Sep 27, 2009 06:56 AM PDTDear HollyUSA,
Well sed, you also speak my heart ;)
And for those who would refer to the movie 300 as a “Historical Fact” I can only say
“Javabe Ablahaan, Khamooshist”
And about the negative female comments about this young talented actress, it is a matter of fact that the biggest weakness in woman, and one might say specially Persian woman is jealousy, and the case of some "want to be" Persian actresses in the west I have seen most to be very bitter and supper jealous towards those Persian actresses that have managed to blaze a path in the western market.
No one is perfect and all is Sacred

by KouroshS on Sun Sep 27, 2009 01:27 AM PDTGood job standing your ground.
I wonder how many, who make the claim that others are jealous by critcizing her, know golshifteh IN PERSON and can virtually say that yes and in fact She is indeed a superb and talented actor and a sweet and decent person, outside the acting world. How many can Honestly make that claim?
It is totally absurd that even an ounce of criticism, is forbidden amongst us iranians, since it just may make us look envoius of others or that goes to show that we refuse to face and confront our own insecurities and shortcomings. Would you forgive someone if he or she did not think that Golshifte khanoom is pretty after all? would that be deemed as a sin? Does everyone have to hide their true opinion so as to be able to go with the flow?

by Mola Nasredeen on Sat Sep 26, 2009 08:34 PM PDTfrom this sinful act that is eating us from within, oh, Parieh Beheshti?" Asked Hazrate shotor, desparation in his voice.
"Her message is to get up, to stand up and be counted as you really are, don't lie anymore to yourself or to others...." I said it to Hazrate shotor but he was long gone not wanting to hear my interpretation of what she had just said.
TheMrs, let us get back to the subject at hand...
by American Dream on Sat Sep 26, 2009 08:21 PM PDTWhy are Hooman and Kamran denying the fact that they are Iranian?
Being Iranian has nothing to do with politics.
Being Iranian has nothing to do with nose jobs and hairy eye brows.
Please click the clip I posted about Kamran and Hooman. They go out of their way to say they are Canadian.
They were both born in Tehran and they smell like parsley stew (Ghormeh Sabzi).
Let us stop saying that we lie with a purpose.
The truth is that a lot of Iranians or Persians have an inferiority complex.

No I'm not jealous but she's definately very pretty. Especially since she looks so smart and incredibly sweet. Who can resist her. I think so is very pretty but I'm not jealous.
On the other hand, I'm not any shallower than anyone else here talking about her nose. She's a celebrity and did and interview. I made a comment about her looks. That doesn't make me shallow. If you think it does...oky doky. Your choice.
Thank god for the thick eyebrow
by Louie Louie on Sat Sep 26, 2009 07:57 PM PDTI'm so glad it's back. I don't know which idiot started the trend in Iran to shave the eyebrows and tatoo something devilish instead, women started looking like freaks. Frida Kahlo thing is a bit much though. Mila Kunis and Magen Fox both have beautiful eyebrows.

Oh yes sometimes we tell "lies!"
by ahosseini on Sun Sep 27, 2009 05:58 AM PDTOh yes sometimes we tell "lies!"
Let me be short and concise
We do for a good reason
Because their law we despise
Because we are not free
We defy law and decree
Don't feel too bad about it
Surely with me you agree
What would you say in public
If a thug who is so sick
Come and ask if your mother
Dance or play music
What if a Nazi fascist
Or a sick Stalinist
Interrogated you then
You would simply resist

by American Dream on Sat Sep 26, 2009 04:13 PM PDTUnlike others who criticize the American Dream, let it be known that the American Dream has been on this site since the first days of Iranian.com
Many have sent fan mail to the American Dream.
The American Dream is here to stay.
It will be here until the end of time.
And yes, Iran is my business.
I have been fighting for freedom for Iranian people for over 37 years.
The one thing constant on Iranian.com is the American Dream.

She's incredibly beautiful
by desi on Sat Sep 26, 2009 03:21 PM PDTShe's incredibly beautiful and talented. She's a good actor, a good musician and a polyglot. BTW, for those of you who are fixated on her facial hair. Over plucked eyebrows are out! And have been for a while. So ladies, start growing them out. I did and let me say the Frida Kahlo thing is quite liberating. As for the lying thing: I believe it. How else can one survive in an oppressed culture without lies and facades. We're also the only culture that has tarroff, the polite lies. Honesty in our culture would be deemed rude and por roo. Which is probably why we here like to comment on IC so much. We can be por roo and bee tarroff ad nauseum.

I'm lost! Why is this so fascinating?
by HollyUSA on Sat Sep 26, 2009 03:52 PM PDTDon't get me wrong...I'm not being critical of her. I think she's beautiful and a decent actress too. But I was a child and went to school in Iran before the revolution and the double life thing was pretty much the same except the bad guys were the SAVAK. It was always 'don't say this in school' and 'don't mention the library in the basement' and 'don't repeat what you hear discussed at home anywhere else' ... my father hid some 'banned' books in the basement of the house and there were those ominous wanted posters of the Siahkal people in the windows of the grocery stores that at a young age scared the hell out of us ...people I knew were 'taken' many times for 'questioning'...dad had a friend who went insane because of all the torture ... And this is just a few things off the top of my head! Yes yes I'm sure things are worse in many other ways and details now but the concept is the same: keep ur mouth shut if you want to stay out of trouble.
Now I'm sure all pro-monarchy folk watch this and run to comment on how evil the IRI is. As far as I'm concerned it's just the same shit, different day and carried out by people not quite so well groomed!
And American Dream, before u jump in and start fishing in muddy waters...this is NOYFB! you go shine ur peanut sized ba**s with your Israeli flag.
TheMrs...I'd like to see how pretty you look without the waxing, hair color and styling, the customary streotypical Iranian woman's 3.5 tons of makeup that is clearly visible in your thumbnail pic and the likely half pound of Botox and fillers. Yeah, give it try and then compare.
